Has anyone escaped termination successfully? My T of 10 years terminated suddenly, because her job duties have changed. The clinic where I saw her gave me a low fee for my low income, but I just realized hey, if I could offer $150 per session, maybe she'd find time to see me privately! She'd know I can't afford it, but I don't care, I miss her desperately!

I think there is no harm in asking if you can see her privately, but perhaps offer something more affordable if she says yes.
Thanks for this!

I'm sorry you aren't able to see your T anymore. I know that must be really painful. Do you know if your T sees clients in private practice already? There are a lot of logistical issues in running a private practice like having an appropriate space, managing scheduling and payment, preparing business taxes, etc. Unfortunately most clinics would probably not allow their employees to use their facilities and resources to see private practice clients. I'm guessing the fee you paid likely didn't impact your T since she is probably salaried through the clinic. All this is to say that I don't know if offering to pay more is going to make a difference, but I guess there is no harm in asking. Best of luck to you going forward.
Thanks for this!

Oh firefly, I wish you weren't having to go through this. I am concerned about the offer, even though I think it's worth asking. Isn't she the one who took on more supervisory duties at one point and was often running late or missing your sessions? It may be that even with more money, she isn't able to figure out how to do both kinds of jobs--so I would just prepare myself for that. But still do ask. Maybe if you are her only private client, she can carve some time out. This is so hard and painful. I am so sorry.

ElectricManatee, I really appreciate your caring note. It's super helpful to have you go through all these points. Your clear thinking really helps me sort this out when my brain is foggy with emotions. Yes, I'll ask my T if she sees anyone privately. Thank you for the good wishes and I wish you the same!

Wow, Ruh Roh, you have a big caring heart and amazing memory, thank you for your kind note. I'm so touched that you remembered 100% correctly! You'd make a great therapist, in my opinion! Thank you for your understanding, caring and empathy! Yes, I fear even money cannot solve it, but I may ask anyway. Sending good vibes, hope everything is going well for you.

Can you afford the $150?
As much as I adore working with my T all theses years. I wouldn't pay that to keep with her.
I'm a believer that things happen for a reason, and would let the cards fall where they may.
Thanks for this!
