My therapist suggested going from once a week to twice a week after I'd been seeing him for about a year. It's been another year since then of therapy twice a week, and I've found it very helpful. I don't think it's any indicator in the slightest that I'm difficult somehow or need a higher level of care, just a way of making my therapy more productive and intense.

In addition to the good suggestions other people have already made, if bringing this up in person sounds too difficult maybe you could mention by email first that going twice a week is something you want to discuss?
Thanks for this!

I see my T once a week. Lately I would do way better if it were twice a week but a few things stop me (in order):

a) the last several times I’ve asked for an extra appointment she hasn’t had any available, then I obsess over hoping someone will cancel but they never do... so I almost end up worse. I’ve decided not to ask anymore because it hasn’t been an option so I figure I must not need it like I think I do.

b) T only has appointments during the day, 8-2ish. I have permission to leave work to see her on Mondays but it’s a burden to my coworkers/company. I wouldn’t be able to do it twice a week and keep my job.

c) a couple years ago I did see her maybe 6-7 times a month for a couple months... my insurance at the time was not pleased about it and made a fuss even though she was out of network and I had a $12k out of network deductible before they would pay her a dime.
