My PN wanted me to start therapy again. Probably because I wasn’t/aren’t doing well. I don’t want therapy, after 4 years of ineffective frustrating therapy. I also don’t want to waste her time and to a lesser extent my own time. I understand NP wants to keep tabs on me more then 4x a year. So having a check-in every other week is fine but that’s like 5-10 min. The other 40 minutes are useless. I'm just sick of squishy therapist who I have to be pg or they'll want me iop/ip. I'm sick if trying, not trusting or trusting too much. I just really don’t want to do it. I really don’t want her to waste her time and I feel like I am. I have to come up with therapy goals. I know I need therapy but I don’t want to waste her time. How do you come up with goals when you really just don’t want to be there?

I don't think you can waste a therapist's time if you are paying them.

Can you look for a new therapist that you might have better rapport with? It sounds like the one you've had in the past is not a very good fit for you if you feel like 40 minutes of your session was a waste of time.

I do not believe a client can waste the time of a therapist. The therapist is paid to sit there. The client might waste their own time or their own money -but the therapist is of no concern at all.

While it’s true that it’s your dime and your time, if your therapist doesn’t feel like they are making any progress with you they have every right (and ethical responsibility) to refer you out.

Making goals for therapy is hard - i suck at it too. Some days my goal is to just stay alive, other days I have much loftier goals. If you’ve been seeing this therapist for awhile, they should be able to help you set some goals.

If you don’t even want to be there tho, a break from therapy might be exactly what you need right now.
