I had a really triggering session with my DBT therapist and I’m really struggling even though it has only been an hour since the session. I’m sure it will feel somewhat better but I’m super anxious still because next week is Christmas and I probably won’t have another session til Wednesday or Thursday instead of my weekly Tuesday appointment. I want to ask her for another session this week but I’m afraid she will think I’m becoming dependent on her and say no.

If you need the extra session ask her for one. I asked my t for a extra one this year because he's going to be away for a few weeks and he was really glad i asked for an extra session. This time of year is hard and i think therapist do expect to be asked for another session. Hugs
Thanks for this!

I say you have nothing to lose if you ask for a session. The worst that could happen is that T will say no. But there is a possibility that T will say yes. Kit

She might even be glad for an extra session. There is often a higher cancellation and no-show rate around the holidays, and therapists don't get paid time off - so any time she takes will result in a loss of income. Try to focus on that if you're worried - and I wouldn't be too concerned about her thinking you're too dependent, as the holidays are difficult for many people, and she will probably just chalk it up to that.
Thanks for this!

I just texted and asked. I’m so panicky right now. I think I’m just worried she will think the exact same thing is happening with her that happened with ex T.

Hope she's able to give you an extra session. I've found them to be helpful.

As others have already mentioned, it doesn't hurt to ask. The worst they can say is no. It's possible they'll be available.

If I were you, I'd just make sure I at least attempted whatever coping skills or meds I had at my disposal. That might just be a personal thing, though, and having a lot of difficulty asking for help in the first place though.

Yay! Good on you for being courageous enough to ask. Not easy to do when you are full of doubt!
