My therapist and I finally started talking about a BIG issue last week. It's probably what put me in therapy for the first time a million years ago, but I've never actually talked about it until now.
He warned me that it's gonna be ugly and messy and painful. I was like "yup sure I can handle it". My only homework for this week was to just sit with the feelings. I was like "ya no problem." Holy hell it's hard. So many feelings coming up. They are becoming difficult to manage. Thankfully we are not taking a break over Christmas - I see him on the 27th, but I feel like I have about six weeks of material to cover in one hour. |

Sitting with those feelings stirred up by dealing with the big issues is hard. It helps me to double up on my self care. But I think you're really ahead of things just to realize how hard it is, rather than being in denial or minimization or anything other than just seeing it for what it is. Crazy tough stuff.

You’re very brave to keep wading through it. Distraction is my tool of choice... things get too big/emotional and I get myself busy and overworked and draw away from the process.
The fact that you don’t have a long break should be very helpful though. A suggestion I was given which I always thought sounded good, was ‘to allow the feelings to come, sit with them for a while, but to have some gentle plans throughout the days between therapy so you’re not feeling all these feels without a break. Simple things like - meeting someone for a coffee, an activity you enjoy, reading a book etc.... |

I have been journalling a lot (it’s an app on my phone so super easy), working tonnes, and I went for a massage yesterday.
I have also been focusing less on the thoughts and more on the thought processes. The cognitive aspect seems to make it easier for me. Also keeping my T updated as to how I’m doing helps me - it helps me feel like I’m on the right track. |

Sounds like you are doing a great job between sessions. Therapy is hard work!

The one I use is just called Diary. It’s pink. I really like it but wish I could either a) share it with my T ie find a way to give him access but there isn’t or b) be able to export my entries into email format but I can’t do that either. I would also be willing to pay for an upgrade to get rid of the ads but that’s not an option. Otherwise it gives me everything I want in a journalling app.
