Trigger warning - physician sexual abuse

I was sexually abused by a doctor when I was 14. I don't even remember his name, but always look up doctors in state databases. Here is national database I came across accompanied by an article on physician sexual abuse.

There are many interesting facts and knowledge you can use to protect yourself.

Part 1 - When Docs Sexually Violate Patients
Part 2 - How Medical Centers Fail to Police Sexual Predators
Part 3 - State Boards, Regulators Paralyzed on Physician Sex Assaults

Personally, I find the institutional cover up more triggering than the actual sexual abuse that occurred.

Here is the database: fsmb DocInfo

I was thinking we should have an advocacy and resources sticky thread for these issues or do we already have one somewhere?

Here's a petition you can sign:

Laws Needed to Prosecute Psychiatrist/Psychologist Patient Sexual Abuse as Felony

And the background article:

CCHR Launches Petition for Laws Against Psychiatrist/Psychologist Sexual Abuse

According to a study published in the Bulletin of the American Academy of Psychiatry Law, "While estimates vary across studies, it is widely held that 7 to 10 percent of male and 1 to 3 percent of female therapists report having had sexual intercourse with one or more patients. Those therapists who report having sex with their patients are often repeat offenders with some surveys noting over 50 percent of male therapists reporting sexual involvement with more than one patient."[2]

Kenneth S. Pope, Ph.D., reported in his book, Sexual Involvement with Therapists: Patient Assessment, Subsequent Therapy, Forensics, that research studies also suggest that at least 50 percent of all therapists will encounter a least one patient who has been sexually abused by a previous therapist.[3]
There are several articles/references listed at the end of this article:

Sexual Abuse in the Mental Health System is Pervasive, Watchdog Reports

Reporting resource:

Quote:
CCHR encourages anyone who has knowledge of a psychiatrist, psychologist or psychotherapist sexually abusing a family member or friend to report this to CCHR to call CCHR’s hotline at 1-800-869-2247 or fill out an abuse case report form on the CCHR website.
