Does your T send you reminders of your appointments? Do you find them beneficial?

When I initially started seeing EMDR T she asked if I needed/wanted me to send a reminder text. because I saw her biweekly I asked her for the first few appointments to receive one but after that they were not necessary. so she did exactly that. I think she did the first 3 appointments and stopped. Which was fine.

Then when T assed away last year and I started seeing her weekly, she started sending the texts again. I never said anything about it figuring since we don't email and rarely text
it might help with the connection especialy since Mondays are a hard day for me (I saw T on Monday). Some days it helps a bit to receive those texts on Monday). However other days it reminds me that I can never see T again it really brings me down some day. art of me is afraid f adking her to stop because of the days it is helpful.

Any thoughts or advice?

The therapist has some sort of automated system that sends the texts. She doesn't send them herself.

ETA: And yes, I do find it helpful. There have been a few times when I thought it was scheduled for one time but it was actually for another. I was definitely remembering incorrectly - my calendar would also have the correct time, but I probably wouldn't have checked it since I had in my mind when it was. The therapist schedules new appointments every week, so they are at varying times.

My p-doc does, but T doesn't, and neither did ex-T or ex-MC. Actually I got reminders for ex-p-doc, too, but as phone calls. Maybe it's more common with them because they tend to see clients less frequently, so easier to forget.

I always get reminders frim psych np and pcp. T never sent reminders.

Like I said sometimes the reminders are helpful other times they cause problems. I fear saying something because of the times they are beneficial. I see her weekly at aset date and time

Both my T and my pdoc had office staff call with a reminder the day prior to the appointment. Very helpful since my appointment day and time varied week to week. Pretty much all of our doctors send reminders either via phone message, text, or email.

No, but I see my T the same time every week.

That is a difficult situation, nottrustin'. Do the benefits of getting them outweigh the cons?

I am not sure yet. i certainly do not need reminders. In 10 yrs seeing T I missed one appointment and that was because we made it one hour earlier than my regular scheduled time.

My current T uses an automated text reminder system to send me a text 24 hours before my next appointment. Our appointments are always the same time each day/week, but it's helpful when we have to change a session time.

A reminder would have pissed me off. Like they thought I was too daft to know how to keep appointments

I guess you could always ask EMDR T to stop sending them and see how it feels. What's your guts response to that concept?

You could also see if your mail program has a way to move them automatically to another folder and mark them as read that might be a way to see how it would fee without having to talk to EMDR T about it.

I've never had a therapist send reminders. I might find it useful if I'd ever had session times that changed constantly, but since my appointments are consistent every week, no thanks. My current therapist only contacts me about session times when he's worried he's forgotten something or gotten the time wrong on his calendar.

Maybe you could ask the therapist to stop the reminders for a few weeks, see what that feels like, and then revisit?

i have seriously considered talking to her about it but fear that if I tell her that one of the reasons I like the texts is that they help me feel connected and if I am realy struggling sometimes they remind me everything will be okay. I am sure that comes from the place of fearing rejection/ abandonment

I get automated reminder texts from the clinic I visit. They're nice to have for when I worry about accidentally turning up at the wrong time.

I also get an automated reminder. I don't really need it since I almost always have the same time scheduled every week, but it doesn't bother me.
