Have any of you done this?

In my T's office there is this light bar with headphone attached to it and I finally got the guts to ask her what it was. She told me that is what it was used for. She said people with trauma in their lives sometimes got better by using it. I don't understand it and was wondering if any of you had used it and could explain it to me.

Jbug, I have done it (although we didn't use a light bar or headphones) and it was helpful to me. EMDR is a therapy that can be especially helpful for resolving stuck trauma.

Here is a link to a recent discussion of EMDR in the Survivors of Abuse forum:

Lots of good posts on it, type in "EMDR" in the search box in the upper right corner and it will show all of them.

Thanks guys.

I had always wondered what the thing was for. I am just hoping that now that she knows more about me that I don't have to do it.

You don't ever have to do any therapy process you don't wish to. Not all tools work with all people.

Please make sure if you ever do EMDR - you have a qualified licensed therapist doing it. It can take you back to the trauma, and can be dangerous - I would hate to see you go thrugh what I did when i did EMDR :'(
