Just thinking of a conversation I had with T once ,

if there was a sign outside T's office that said "either - press button to erase suffering ever again and return home. Or knock to enter the therapy space"

Which would you choose?

I would end all suffering if I could although pain , anger, suffering etc tell us something is off and we need to attend to it, how you deal with suffering can build great character also but I guess I would end needless suffering at any rate

My suffering is relatively easy. I have human rights, I know people who love me, I am physically safe, I live in a Western democracy (albeit a liberally dying one). My suffering is existential and I understand it as "safe suffering". I am in pain and I have been mentally unwell and experienced abuse, but socially, culturally and economically, I am relatively safe. So, I would not end my suffering because there is discovery and realisation in my explorations. However, I understand that it is a privilege to chose the "enter therapy space" option - there is no real risk attached to my suffering now. Previously, my choice would probably have been different.

T and I use to have discussions about how their degree should come with an easy button. We wondered what that would look like. My easy answer is yes. The not so easy is no. It is through pain suffering that we grow and learn.

My former T and I would discuss how she didn't have a magic wand, but what it would look like if she did. I probably would enter the therapy space also. As much as suffering sucks, I can't imagine being able to appreciate the good things in life if I didn't have some suffering.

I would the the suffering and go home. I want so bad to not have had my past, to have had a childhood and a normal life including some happiness. I am too old and too tired to want to go through years of more hard work and therapy on order to obtain some semblance of a normal life.

My therapist actually does have a "magic wand". It's a small stick filled with glitter, confetti, and oil. We have a sweet ritual that when I'm dealing with a particularly damaging childhood trauma she asks me if I need the magic wand. In my little girl voice I answer "yes please". And she waves it, wishing my little girl part comfort. It sounds silly but it really does help.
