Do the presents really have to be traditionally wrapped? I can see my self doing the pillow case thing. Do you have spare fabric?

15+ Wrapping Paper Alternatives

Have you ever done Christmas in your own home with zero travelling?

Stating the obvious- the dream to me is about feeling trapped, and I can understand in connection with your post. Trapped with expectations perhaps and being somewhere where you don't want to be.

Thanks, Lemon. I really only have to make this one dish (and nothing for Christmas tomorrow), but it just involves lots of veggie chopping--and difficult veggies to chop, like sweet potatoes. For the wrapping stuff, mostly using bags for parents and in-laws, but my D last year decided that only wrapped items are "presents," that ones in bags don't count. So mostly have to wrap hers (did half yesterday). H could theoretically help, but he's notoriously bad at wrapping, and it would take him much longer. Plus he's out with D at his mom's at the moment (we all--including his mom--meet at his dad's/stepmom's in a few hours for dinner).

The traveling part isn't too bad--only like 15 minutes for his side of the family and 45 for mine. But it would be nice if we didn't have to go anywhere one year. However, people coming to us would be worse because we'd have to do so much straightening/cleaning and other preparations...And my mom is very much a "we must celebrate Christmas on the actual day" person (I suggested the next day one year and she kinda flipped out, though we did, pre-D, once celebrate on a different day due to a snowstorm, and everyone survived!)

Trying to become less cranky...

H can help wrap D’s gifts even if bad and slow at it. She’s not going to care how they are wrapped. She’s just going to tear them open. If she comments that those are wrapped weird just tell her Santa hired a new elf and that elf is still learning how to wrap.

Okay. Now my sister is being a little demanding.
She texted me: “I need moving boxes and storage totes”
I told her: Well okay. You can get those yourself.

I mean sheesh. Didn’t I do enough work on my day off?

In my family - santa presents were never wrapped and my parents just wrapped two or three that they marked as being from them. Santa presents were just under the tree as is. And they had a handy childless friend they would invite over late on xmas eve -who would put together the complicated santa toys while they plied him with liquor and cookies - it saved them a lot of time and stress.

I am pretty certain if my sibling or I had decided that a present was not a present because it wasn't wrapped or wrapped in a certain way, that my parents would have said fine, then you don't have to have it and gone on with their day.

SD- I have a few friends that actually do that same thing when it comes to Santa gifts. It makes a lot of sense and makes things easier.

So, Cats.

Only in a musical would a plot involving a talent competition between cats in singing and dancing to see who gets to die and in which the day is saved by a magician cat with such low self-esteem that he has to hear the same self-esteem-boosting song five or six times before he can do his job and in which the winner of the competition also sings the same song twice be acceptable.

I kept wanting to yell at the cats “put some clothes on!” Especially Idris Elba, who has forever been ruined for me.

Other random notes:

A sign of approval among cats is to lift one leg in the air, thus reminding the audience there is a very thin catsuit between them and the actor’s genitals.

Memo to Info: human being bottom halves do not look their best in spotted cat suit leggings. (I’m sure she has a pair.)

It is kind of creepy when humans do on screen the affectionate gestures cats do to each other in real life.

Lots of old British references to folks like Beau Brummell that I can’t see very many people getting.

Jennifer Hudson can sing. But we knew that.

This musical has no good songs. The best lyrics are straight from Eliot.

About halfway through she turned to me and gave a thumbs down. She also asked how much more time several times. But didn’t want to leave because it might get better.

Tonight I’m going to clear the taste from my mouth with A Few Dollars More, starring our own unaluna, er, Lee van Cleef.

Somehow it doesn't seem like a Merry Christmas, when the manager comes in to wish me a Merry Christmas (because he is leaving early, and won't be back until January 6th). I think if regular employees have to stay until the end of the day, so should managers, but I know, it's the old salary/hourly thing. Just complaining. Don't mind me.

Wife is watching The Mandalorian. I have tried several times to get into Star Wars, but it's just not for me.

I made an appointment to give blood on Saturday. I haven't been in ages, but I would like to get back into the habit.

Wow. I wanted to warn you that For a few dollars more is pretty disturbing, but after reading your review of Cats...!

Well, i should still warn you. And im not usually squeamish about these things, you know me. It was on the disgusting side. As in decidedly non- feminist.

I am watching "Christmas Icetastrophe."

Thank you, SyFy channel, for making Christmas suck a little less by being so ridiculous.

I always pronounce it with the i-sound like in ice to make it even more ridiculous.

Are any sharks involved?

Survived Christmas Eve dinner with the in-laws. Including a terribly awkward discussion with step-mom-in-law (married H's dad like 10 years ago) about menopause. My roasted root veggies were a hit (and tasted quite good, if I do say so myself). Now to wrap remaining gifts (H said he'd help) and hopefully get some more sleep tonight. Then Christmas morning here with H and D, then Christmas afternoon with my parents.

I don't really know what to do. Food/weight mention
Possible trigger:
I know I am hungry but I get scared I feel sick everytime I eat. See T on Friday which sucks to have had a 3 week gap right now and in middle of 4 week gap with EMDR T.

I wish I could talk to someone but I guess Christmas is just like that.
