Thanks! Unfortunately all I have near are chain grocery stores, dollar stores, and gas stations. Might drive 30 or 45 minutes to the next city tomorrow and fingers crossed some got deliveries.

In my town some of the larger businesses are selling there excess toilet paper for reasonable price but seeing as they pay wholesale prices they are probably making a tidy profit

luckily I'm a bit of a couponer. not like you see on tv but enough to get through the next month. Went to the store for milk and it was crazy with shelves empty. stay safe people. I'm just staying indoors now.

Rough day on the COVID 19 front:

My 89-year-old father's assisted living center is now in full lockdown for safety: no one in and no one out (or if they leave they cannot return until all is cleared and there is not date on that.)

My husband's pay will be cut in half because the hotel industry is being slammed with cancellations. (We're assuming he won't be laid off, but that's not a certainty).

My son's position has been eliminated so he is now fully unemployed.

My niece's flight was cancelled, so she won't be able to get down to see her mother.

Symphony is shut down. Months of work will never go to performance. No rehearsals for the foreseeable future.

School may go online for awhile. Guess I'm spending break (which may be extended, shortening our instructional time) reworking lesson plans into a form that will work somehow online.

Lots of other complications with my son's graduation requirements/plans. Sure hope the university is considering altering certain requirements like observations, etc.

Church has been closed for at least two weeks. Smaller service will be livestreamed -- not the same.

The only consolation is that we think we have a plan to manage financially for a while - not indefinitely, but a while. Oh, and I don't know many people whose lives are not being greatly affected in some way -- employment status, childcare, finances, socially, etc. It's one of those rare times when pretty much everyone can relate at the same time.

With a pretty big crew to feed, my normal grocery run looks like stocking up and I felt almost apologetic going about with my full cart. I usually have an ongoing 2-week rotating supply of nonperishables anyway because I have the storage space and the farm-girl food storage habit, but I wanted to make chicken soup today and wasn't able to find a whole chicken anywhere! I happened across a guy restocking the meat section at our Walmart grocery and asked if he had whole chickens, so he brought me an entire box and told me I could choose the one I wanted. I took two so I could stick one in the freezer for next week. Sheesh.

A side note- my kids think it is hysterically funny that he looked at me and said (not asked): "You'll probably want the all-natural antibiotic free chicken." Yes, actually, though I would have taken any chicken he had at that point.

How did he miss “free-range”?

One of the things I learned in economics last summer was that raising prices in a time of crisis was actually good, contrary to popular opinion—it prevents people from hoarding by buying too many of a given necessity, and leaves more for others.

Something that is making me angry is when a rookie basketball player, all of 19, offers to cover salaries for all of the hourly staff at his home stadium during the season pause...but not a peep from the much older, much richer than the rookie, billionaire owner of his team.

I have four rolls of toilet paper left. I'm hoping that will last until some semblance of toilet paper sanity returns.

One of my friends who has a baby said she's having a hard time finding baby wipes too. She's like why are people hoarding baby wipes?

Our church is packing food boxes for the elementary children for spring break. I was thinking if I run across extra tp, I will buy some and drop it off to go in the food boxes.

I am a little worried about my job--can't study education if there are no students in schools--but think I will make a donation to the local hunger relief organization. I worry about how this is going to impact folks who are already living on the edge.

My work is offering incentive pay (a much, much higher hourly wage) to anyone who picks up hours. I just offered myself up for 8 additional hours this week!

Everything else is shutting down - I feel so bad for the less fortunate who don't have the resources that I have (I'm poor too - but not desperately poor) - and for those laid off or losing their jobs - or don't have childcare while the schools are shut down.

Ugh, Artley, that's awful, especially about your husband and son. And difficult about the assisted living, too. A former coworker was posting on FB that she normally visits her elderly mother daily but now can't because of the lockdown. I understand why they're doing it, but I can't imagine how isolating it must be for those living there to not see the outside world. I'm not sure of the official status in our state yet, but I worry about another former coworker whose father has dementia, and she's often the only one who can calm him down when he's agitated. I hope she'd still be able to see him somehow.

This is all such a cluster. Our hospital has a few suspected cases and it's a madhouse. They're now officially prohibiting patients from having visitors (unless they are a woman in labor or a dying person). They're cancelling everything unnecessary--non-urgent surgeries, clinic appointments, you name it. And they're warning us that they might ask (require?) us to work on the wards when we're supposed to be doing other less intense things. I have a feeling I'm not going to get a break anytime soon.

My mother-in-law is supposed to have knee replacement surgery in 2 weeks...I suspect if we end up with any possible cases at that hospital, it will be postponed (or might even be postponed anyway).

Hallelujah we have toilet paper and feminine hygiene items for my daughter. Our Dollar General has a good stock, and they are expecting a truck Tuesday; it will be half loaded with toilet paper. The manager is insistent that he will not run out.

I think you got ok boomer'd, in a way. Like thats why your boys thought it was funny? I love that they are so aware of this. That makes it even more complex. Its just delicious.
