But you know LT lots of people do have those thoughts and yes they are scary and they are alarming but the point is they are often fleeting and in the end they only matter as much weight as we give them. Sure, you could focus on those fleeting thoughts and expand on them and analyse and dissect them and turn them over in your hands, and discuss how they felt and why they are there and where did they come from
or you could move on to the next fleeting thought, which might be about what gift to buy for a loved one or what to have for dinner, or what meditation class you'd like to join up for. My point is, if it was a fleeting thought, you can also choose to simply let it go. Our brains come up with a zillion fleeting thoughts a day. It's okay to just let them go instead of pulling them up on the center stage. Now if they are prancing around on center stage and refuse to get off, then that is another story.... Thanks for your comments. Your last statement is similar to what Dr. T said in his email reply (which was partly about that, but also tied to my D), how if the thoughts become more of an obsession or there's more of a plan, then I may need to get more concerned about it. I do have a tendency to hold onto thoughts and emotions too much, where it seems like most people can just be like, "Well that was a weird thought" or something and let them go. I imagine my having OCD is tied into that issue... |
