So since lockdown has turned face to face sessions into digital I have been recording our sessions. I just find it helpful to refer back to it later on things that I said or my T said.
Do I need to let her know that I'm doing that? |

I would say yes.... its all about data protection etc. My psychologist recorded our sessions and at the start of every session would tell me so

Not sure what laws are like in the UK. In my state in the US, you cannot record someone without their permission.

I second what LT said - my state is the same. All parties have to be aware they are being recorded or it's illegal. Your therapist may feel there was a breach of trust in being recorded without her knowledge whether it's legal or not. She may not consent to being recorded - I've seen therapists on reddit say they would not agree. I think this is to cover their asses because they fear recordings might be used against them. However, I have also read of clients whose therapists are ok with it and see the value in such a practice.

I'm in UK and we have GDPR now which is all about data protection. This is a legal thing. If I were you I would ask your therapist if you can record the session if not as them to write a transcript for you?
I write things down as I forget it's no biggie it's just points that were made or things she wants me to do for our next session |

I would ask them and explain why you want to do it. If you T is ethical they should have no problem with it. My T actually suggested I record sessions because I have DID and dissociate a lot. It is very helpful for me to listen back to sessions and I usually share with him what I learned from listening back each week.
