Morning couch. I'm awaiting the results of yesterday's blood work to see how my kidney numbers are doing. My dr also ordered another thyroid antibodies test which hasn't been done in awhile (I guess it will tell her more about the hashimotos?) I feel so the opposite of needing any blood work - L even told me yesterday, just as I was sitting down, that I look so healthy! I feel pretty healthy too these days, all the way around, mentally and physically.

Happy Saturday and hugs all around to those who want/need.

So as my and L's 10 year theraversary gets closer, I'm thinking about making an afghan for her, for her office. My friend had given me a big tub full of yarn awhile back, which includes many full skeins of perfect colors, so it would cost me $0. I know she accepts little things - like when I bring in stuff for the sand play shelves and I made that little crochet bowl for her that one time. I don't know how she would feel about accepting something that cost me $0 but took time, effort, and skill to make. I wonder how I could find out if she would accept something like that? Have any of the other couch crocheters made an afghan for your t? I can't recall.

eta: also, crocheting is of course very therapeutic for me as it is relaxing and I very much enjoy doing it.

eta2: the pattern that inspired this idea is a madala - it's so pretty - I could also just do the middle part and make it into a pillow instead of a full afghan, which would of course be smaller, and might be a better idea.

So I worked the first 8 rows of the mandala pattern using scrap yarn. It's easy so far and I just love how the pattern looks! At this point it's 9 inches across. I think adding rows 9-13 will end up being a good size for a pillow so I'll probably just go with that. Plus I'll be able to finish that much a lot sooner than a full afghan.

Thank you!

I've learned several new stitches by watching crocheting videos on youtube, but haven't seen any crochet shows on tv. I'll have to check for some!

Artie, it's beautiful! You're so talented.

My most skilled pattern is the shell stitch. I am going to try to make a couple butterflies, roses, and hearts to attach to the blankets I'm making my nieces for Christmas (which I haven't even started yet :/).

Thanks! So far this has used sc, hdc, dc, & fpdc. (don't you love crochet-speak? haha) I'm so glad my grandma taught me how to do this so many years ago. It's been a lifelong hobby for me.

I love the shell stitch. So pretty! I made an afghan for my sister a long time ago using that stitch holding 2 pieces of yarn together and a big hook. It worked up pretty fast. I need to ask her if she still has it...

And I love the idea of attaching butterflies and things to blankets! That will be so pretty for the girls.

Will you be serving brownies for this duel thing too? 'Cause if so, I second that motion. Or whatever.
Heh.

hi couch. anyone remember me?

its been quite a while, but i wanted to say hi to those of you that i recognize. im still seeing the same therapist as i was before. weve been working together for 11 years now. but i havent seen him in person since Feb 2020, so thats hard. its gona be so weird to see him IRL again. i told him that and he said maybe at first but it will be back to normal quickly. i hope so cause i can be a big weirdo about stuff like that. we were talking 2x a week during the start of the pandemic but i asked to move to 1x a week later in the year and weve been maintaining that.

ive been thru some changes in my life past few years, jobs and places to live. im doing okay right now emotionally. i feel pretty stable. my voices are under control most of the time, same with paranoia. i havent thought about or considered sui in ages. which kinda blows my mind if im honest because i spent like 30 years doing that every day.

i got sick with covid 2 weeks ago and still recovering from that which brings me to financials, my job refuses to pay me for days missed even tho i got sick from my boss who came to work sick and even tried to hide it from us that he might have covid. so money stuff is in the pits right now, but its kinda always been that way

anyway just a lil update from me if anyone cares or remembers me. i hope youre all doing okay or decent enough !!!

So I changed my mind slightly about the mandala I'm making - just finished round 12 and I LOVE it the way it looks right now for like a wall hanging or something. So this is probably what I will end up giving L, except in colors that go together better (I made this one using scrap yarn). It measures 12 inches across.

Baaaaaaaaah

One of the nurses paged me at 6:45 this morning for a completely non-urgent issue. I've been working insanely long days and this is my one day off this week; I was hoping to catch up on some sleep but now that I'm awake, I can't get back to sleep.

I don't know why the nurses at the VA call us like this for stuff that doesn't matter. I was too tired when I was on the phone with her to figure out how to ask why the hell she had called me before 7am on a Sunday to ask me this inane question, and there are so many issues with this program that I shouldn't waste what social capital I have trying to change this system. But just UGH why are they like this?!??

Presumably because they feel as disregarded, unsupported, and devalued as you do - except they are paid significantly less than you. This kind of marginalisation eats away at someone's (especially a woman's) confidence and autonomy in the workplace.
