It goes without saying that Olivia Coleman is obviously marvellous, but Siobhan Finneran is one of my favourite actors. She is also in Apostasy and Happy Valley which I highly recommend x 100.
I've only seen Cracker but I loved it!

I am so sorry. Grief is difficult. Be patient with yourself; this will take time, and that’s okay.

Tomorrow marks one year since my husband died. I have a long way to go still. Hardest loss and life change I have ever experienced.

I imagine some of the older variants like Delta (which caused more severe illness) are still circulating, too.

Numbers are considerably up in my area lately, so getting anxious. I feel like we can't avoid it forever, though I do wonder if I already had Omicron at some point and just got a false negative on the home tests (had some potential symptoms a few months ago, but negative). I read an article saying how you often have to test at exactly the right time on those to get a positive.
I hope I didn't encourage your anxiety by posting. I don't usually experience health anxiety, but I found it very reassuring to have a pulse oximeter as well as thermometer. By monitoring my readings (as well as my partner's who has asthma so I was particularly worried about her), I could reassure myself that whilst I felt very unwell, I didn't need further intervention. I think without those readings, I would have found it difficult to judge whether I was "normally" ill or not. The brain fog certainly didn't help in that regard. I hope you keep well!

Sorry Artley, my Covid postings feel ill-timed in light of this. I hope you and your loved ones are doing ok with the sadness.

Cracker is great! If you like Robbie Coltrane, you might also enjoy National Treasure.

Thanks, and no worries! My anxiety does just fine all by itself. In other words, you didn't add to it. I mean, had you said you'd been hospitalized and on a ventilator, yeah, that would have a bit. I appreciate your checking in though.

Grades are due tomorrow, and I am completely incapable of concentrating. Not going to make it.

My mother dying in five weeks, from blood test that showed kidney failure to death, was very overwhelming. The aftermath is proving even more overwhelming. My sister and sister-in-law left this morning and I'm rattling around the house having crying spells.

Hugs if wanted. You've dealt with so much in a short time. Is there any way to get an extension on the grades? Or do you have a TA or anyone who could help with them?

I agree with LT. Given the circumstances, it would be wise to negotiate an extension if possible. I'm sure your students would understand, and in this situation, unhelpful faculty can go swivel.

From a student perspective, I would not have passed my first postgraduate assignments if I'd tried to stick to the deadline within days of a significant bereavement. Taking the extension felt like I'd already failed, but it turned out to be the only choice I could have made.

I’ve got TAs for the big course, so the grading will be done and all I’ll need to do is fill out the grade roster. That should be fine.

It’s the other course I’m worried about, the upper-level discussion course.

Nope, no extensions—universities are giant corporations these days. Best thing to do is be as little late as possible and then beg forgiveness.

Well, I'm up at 3am because dad's new puppy was crying. Yeah, my dad already got a new dog. I think it's too fast, and "to each their own". He was seeing and talking to his deceased dog and was isolating. He's always had a dog, and he was with the last one for 13 years. I have to say she's really cute: a short-haired black and tan dachshund. She gives lots of kisses and is very spunky.

Sister Boniface?

I like that series too. Maybe moreso than Father Brown which I find a bit dark at times whereas Sister Boniface is really fun.

Today, I got about 7 steps into the hallway before turning back to Dr. T's office (door was still open, and he was standing at his desk, which is by the door) and saying "You're OK with all we talked about today at the end, right?" Dr. T (reassuringly): "I'm fine." Me: "OK, just making sure. Sorry." Dr. T: "It's OK."

Upper management at work just asked me to call the bank and ask for information that I knew they would not give me (because I already talked to the bank today and they said a signer on the account had to call) and I told upper management they would not give me the information but upper management says call anyway. So I do. And I waste everyone's time because the bank tells me that they cannot tell me because I am not a signer on the account. Sigh. At least I get paid for this nonsense. I wish upper management would listen to me when I say I cannot get the information because I am not a signer. I gave them all the information, phone numbers, company ID and everything. Everything I had. But I still had to waste my time and everyone else's. /Rant over.

Anyone watch Murder In Provence on Britbox? There are only 3 episodes but I thought it was very good. I have watched the three episodes several times now. I really like Marine--Nancy Carroll from Father Brown (Lady Felicia).

Mom and Dad took my car in to the shop today--because I had to work, (I just paid it off on 5/5/22) because it makes a clicking noise when I turn on the max AC. Of course now that it is at the shop, it is not making the clicking noise. They said they will see what they can do. I hope it is not all for naught. I think it is the AC switch (from a limited you tube search) but I'm no mechanic. I gave my Dad $300 to hopefully cover the repair. I told him I'd pay whatever extra it is but at least he would hopefully have most of the payment with the $300. Don't think I am going to get my car back today though. Even if it does turn out to be the AC switch, they probably don't have it in stock. It's supposed to be 96 here on Saturday and Sunday (it's 60 degrees today) so that will be fun.

Kitty - re work bank stuff - i just saw a movie critic say that his wife's review of Alien was better than anything he ever wrote. It was 'Everybody does not listen to smart woman. Everybody dies except smart woman and cat."
