Anyone have any weird, funny or embarrassing therapy stories?
Please share, I’m really disconnected at the moment and need to interact! Thanks
(Years ago someone on here wrote that she told her T she regularly writes short stories where the T is the victim of terrible crimes etc and the T just thought she was playing with her 🤣🤣&#128584 It popped into my memory as I was writing this post and I thought I’d share 🤣🤣 as I can’t write anything about myself right now 🥺

Well I don't know if this is funny but it was definitely embarrassing. Once a long time ago when I was seeing long term T she forgot her keys to the office. She called another therapist that worked there, but, he obviously couldn't get there immediately. So we had part of our session sitting on the curb in the parking lot. Random. Only my left leg fell asleep and when her colleague arrived I tried to get up and then ended up falling three times! It was so embarrassing! I ended up saying I had to go and didn't finish the session.

Some pasta one of my therapists had for lunch was making me feel sick. So she went and tied the garbage bag up and had her back to me. Then for some reason as she was doing it she turned around to see if I was looking at her. It was weird. Why would she care if I was looking at her anyways. She just seemed really self consicous for some reason. Idk why.

I'm sure I have more if I think about it, but the first that jumps to mind is that I had a bottled fizzy water I was drinking on the table next to me. I tend to talk with my hands (especially when I'm anxious), and I hit the water bottle. The cap wasn't on tight, and the bottle flew across the room, spilling a bunch of water on the carpet. I grabbed some tissues and frantically went to clean it up, and my T said not to worry about it, that it was just water and would dry.

In related instances, a couple times, I've gone to take a sip from the water bottle, and I guess because it's carbonated, some of it somehow flew up into my nose. Maybe I need to start drinking noncarbonated water at sessions....

I will never forget this incident in therapy. I always need a fidget thing and I was experimenting with different gadgets. I bought this squishy thing that you squeeze and it bubbles out. Well I squeezed it and it exploded all over his shirt, face, new chair and rug. OMG we both froze for what felt like an eternity. I am sure he was trying to figure out how not to show disappointment or frustration. He got up and got paper towels and we cleaned up what we could. Somehow there were not stains on anything the following week when I came back. I did email him offering to help pay for any professional cleaning. I now just hold polished rocks. Those are safe.

This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors.

L has done a lot of weird, funny, and embarrassing things. She's completely comfortable with herself and her body. I wish I was free like her. I'm too uptight and scared of rejection, so I try my absolute hardest to be proper.

One recently funny things was she was holding my puppy while I got my things together, and my puppy started digging and eating her hair! She was all good with it.

One fun thing that we are planning for our 10th anniversary is a dance party! We both can't dance, so it should make for a funny session.

And one embarrassing thing L did was she accidentally left a feminine pad on the floor before session. I didn't even see it. She apologized the next session for it. But it turned out to be a conversation starter that triggered topics like menstruation, bodies, sex, fantasies, etc. So the embarrassment went away.

I was only thinking about this today, when I didn't have anyone in my life to share my grief with, and I took my recently passed away pet hamster into session with me! I'd love to know honestly what she was thinking when I opened the box to show her 😂

I'm so sorry you lost your hamster friend, Waterbear.

Taking a deceased pet into a therapy session is pretty funny though!

In a small group art therapy session, we were using modeling clay to make small sculptures that represented our fears. At the time, my biggest fear was my ex husband but all I could manage to sculpt was a snake hiding in some grass. I was almost in a panic in showing it. But when I saw it from the back all I could do was laugh. Uncontrolled tears in my eyes full belly laughs. I finally got myself together enough to explain it. When I turned the back to them they could see how much it looked like male parts! That was the exact moment that perspective became important!

It was embarrassing, very funny and helpful all in the spam of 2 minutes.

Asking to use the loo. The main one was out is use (she worked from home) so pointed to one upstairs next to her bedroom. Her knickers and socks were on the floor from her morning shower.. I needed extra therapy to deal with that!

Once in a therapy session I proclaimed, "I DANCED ON THE BAR AND I WASN'T EVEN NAKED!!!!!" when I meant to say drunk. The therapist thought I was dead serious and was like, "Do you usually dance on bars naked?" It was so awkward and embarrassing lol
