Welcome to the couch, old and new! A place to hang out - sometimes you get immediate feedback, sometimes you don't.

Shouting, "Cool Whip" tends to bring others out from between the cushions if you're feeling lonely.

This is a chatty thread. All are welcome. We're kind of psychologically oriented, sometimes. We try to be supportive. At times we discuss what that means.

It’s a place to plop down on the couch when you come home from work or wherever, or wake up in the middle of the night, or check in at lunch, rant a bit or not, and be among friends.

We advise you not to drink or drug and text your therapist ("T") - we speak from experience.

Sometimes the thread moves fast and you might get overlooked; sometimes it moves slowly and all you hear are crickets. Sometimes you get hugged or thanked pages later. So if it's a bigger question, you might want to start a new thread.

Grab a cushion, a spot on the floor, or an armchair in the corner and make yourselves comfy.

Well a lot of g*n references came up. Jane Austen is buried here.
Thanks for this!

Can we have the Jane Austen/Brontes debate again, then? It’s been ages.

Austen = overrated

Anne Brontë = underrated

Charlotte Brontë = meh, but Anne makes up for her

Emily Brontë = overrated, but Anne makes up for her

You know I will jump right on that and once again state my overly-dramatic-heart's undying love for Emily's Wuthering Heights.

I haven't read it in awhile, I think it's time to dust off my copy and read it again.

Oh wait, I do have Tenant of Wildfell Hall (Anne) on my Kindle but I haven't read it yet.

(I don't know how to make the fancy e's)

Can't stand the Brontes - love Austin. The brontes don't play with language like Austin does or at least not in a witty way that holds my attention. The brontes are just a slog. I laugh outloud reading Austin. I prefer laughing to slogging. I mostly just wanted everyone in every bronte novel to die. And earlier rather than 500 pages in.

I didnt want to say gun.

Tenant is the BEST. It is the original codependent novel. Should be required reading for anyone in love with a baddie. Or just crushing on.

Also, i have watched every Jane Eyre movie at least 3 times. An there's a lot of 'em!

You mean like Voldemort? I really didn't know what you were talking about - gun wasn't even in the top thousand. I was more going in the direction of gin? gyn?

My person once sat and watched about 12 of them for some paper she was writing (I don't know the real number- she said let's compare these movies with each other and I ran out of our den to take the dog on a very long hike)

Well that just sounds like work. Seriously therez a person after my own heart. I watch jane eyres like i watch the godfather movies - if it's on, i'm watchin it.

Voldewhat? I have no patience for books with a lot of made-up words in them. That's what has twisted the minds of our youth today!

I meant tenant of wildfell hall. Artie i loved it so much.

I don’t either. It did it for me.

Winchester = rifle = g*n. Not that I understood that until I realized what ex-hankster was trying to say. I thought she couldn’t be bothered with all the asterisks in g*****n.

Ha - I went straight to
"Winchester Cathedral" - song by the New Vaudeville Band. I never know if exhankster is referring to her odd old westerns attachment or to her hippy side

So tomorrow is a Scarlett O’Hara day—you know, brave a hostile environment with a smile on your face.

Because tomorrow the Faculty Senate meets, and last time that happened the captioning was non-existent and my confidentiality was violated. And I kicked up a major fuss and filed a complaint.

I’m sure I’m popular with them right now.

Winchester Cathedral is a lovely Cathedral (large church) in a city close to here! I have visited lots in the past, they have a great Christmas market each year.

My mom would be in favor of Scarlett O'Hara day, liking the whole smile on your face thing. If only I'd known what toxic positivity was as a kid.

I hope at least the captioning is there this time.

That was the sweetest song back in the day. I remember it well.

Thanks, SD!

I'd not heard the song, and it's great.

The name of this couch made me think of Winchester Mystery House. I went there a few times when I still lived northern CA.

Good luck-I hope it goes well. Braving hostility with a smile is something I applaud. I would be tempted to throw in a fiddle dee dee and fan snap on the exit. Tomorrow is another day.

I also like the line from Witness - "you be careful out there among them English"

dang it all to heck. i'm struggling again with the whole "it's not a competition" thing (trigger for weight talk)
Possible trigger:
I know all of this in my logical brain but Immature 15-year old Artie on the inside, is screaming it's not fair!! and stomping around. I'm gonna go take little miss 15 for a walk while I'm on lunch.
