Therapist Taking Advantage?

I have been feeling angry lately. I wasn't sure why. But I think my T has been taking emotional advantage of me. He talks about his marriage problems, parenting problems, legal problems and his anxiety problems and his anxieties. He thanks me for being so kind to him. Told me some of his other patients are mean to him and yell at him. Told me I was his favorite patient. It's like he's tried to get me to feel sorry for him. Last time the patient after me cancelled, my T was giddy about it. He said we could go for an extra hour today. Which I thought was inappropriate. Last time I saw him he was talking about himself again. .I told him I didn't care. He nervously laughed, then kept talking. I got really mad and said I didn't care. But he just kept going. Didn't ask why I was mad. Or anything. Anyone think this is weird?? I am feeling unsure and used.

It is not only weird. It is not ethical. He is using you to serve his emotional needs.

I wonder why you keep going.

Seek another therapist who will behave professionally and respect the ethics and standards of the profession.

You've invested in communicating with this therapist. It may seem like quitting him means you're wasting your investment. But ask yourself where you can expect this to go? This needy guy will just keep focusing on himself. All that does is drain you.

Oh that is awful and yes it’s definitely weird! I would be curious as to why you are still attending him? Do you have a long history with him?
