It was Jif, and they were sweet potato latkes.

I was just trying different spreads on some leftovers for dinner, not having any sour cream or jam on hand.

I have never had specifically latkes at all so I maybe I just can't picture it. I thought they were like potato pancakes - which I have also not had but maybe once or twice - I remember onion being in them which I doubt would go well with Jif. Peanut butter on roasted sweet potato or peanut soup with sweet potato are some things I like -I make my own peanut butter because I find the store kind too sweet.
What was wrong with them - taste- texture- everything?

A lot of things go well with sweet potato I think. One of our regular rotation meals is a sweet potato black bean stew from Veg Times that they posted about 30 yrs ago

Latke taste and peanut butter taste just didn’t blend together well. It was two separate tastes instead of two things merging to create one taste (like those 1980’s Reese’s commercials).

If that makes sense.

ETA: latkes and potato pancakes are basically the same. I guess latkes might be crispier.

I think the only time I have had potato pancakes is at a german restaurant we went to a couple of times - I think they had cooked apples with them. They were not bad but nothing I would seek out.

It goes together really fast - I cook dried black beans because that is what we have around usually-but it calls for canned.

They had me until the mango. I made something savory once with mango and did not like it at all, maybe some sort of burrito.

Only 4 more days until I am off work for the rest of the year. I can't wait. I've been on the go nonstop the past couple months and I am looking forward to slowing down. And I'm tired- even though I initiated it I think the breakup knocked some of the stuffing out of me a little.

Job update- one job knocked themselves out of the running because of stupid rules. They don't make sense, and my thought has always been if you're implementing a workaround regularly then there is something wrong with the system. I am too old and cranky for that kind of administrative bs. I am a grownup and expect to be treated like one. And my current supervisor is trying to put together an attractive package to keep me. So, lots of choices, which is great and overwhelming.

And...I am getting a dog. I have a meet and greet with two very good pups this coming weekend to see which would be a best fit for my home. It'll be great, because I will be off work and able to help her settle.

How wonderful, WFS!

I hope you'll share pictures once she's home and comfy.

You make a good point about workarounds.

Here's to rest and contentment.

Take care,

Lost

We had a visitor last night in our backyard, a cat that wanders the neighborhood. It has a collar and tag, but won't let me get close enough to read it. Last night he/she was sitting patiently at my back door like it wanted to come in, and Penny was beside herself, hissing and growling the whole 9 yards. Her tail was puffed up fatter than I've ever seen it. She was NOT amused by this potential intruder and looked like she was ready to pounce!

Glad you found out about the stupid rules before you took the job. And that you still have options.

The dog sounds exciting--definitely keep us updated (and on the job, too, of course!)

My mother annoys the crap out of me sometimes. I mailed her a small Christmas present. I called to check that she got the package and she thanked me for what was inside. Granted I wrapped it in brown paper because I didn't have anything holiday themed, but, come on, it's like a week before a major gift-giving holiday. Why did she open it?! I really didn't think I'd need to write "wait to open" on the damn thing. I'm so annoyed. I know it's hers to do with as she pleases, but now she doesn't have something from me to open on the actual holiday. This isn't the first time she's done this, but that was something shipped directly from the company, so it's a little more understandable in that instance.

H is tryna give me a heart attack. He just said he is going to get a giant garbage back and stuff all the various and sundry paperwork that's in his office and take it someplace to have it shredded and disposed of without going through it. That was deserving of a triple-ack. I'm like good lord dude - what if we get audited again? what if..... ?

Ugh--you'd think he'd want to be more careful after having been audited. Could he just throw it all in a big storage bin for now or something? If he doesn't want to deal with it? (I've used that solution before, I admit...)

Hi Couchies,

Hope you are finding kindness and small joys throughout your day.

Have been struggling with medical concerns the past few months, a bit.
Preparing this week to be scanned on Friday to figure out this lung nodule.

Forgive my rant:
The confusion and stress caused by the communication challenges of the endocrinologist’s office and the hospital’s nuclear medicine department is more anxiety provoking than the possible illness, itself.
You all wouldn’t believe.

When the situation calms down, I’m thinking of sending them a string of suggestions from the patient’s prospective.
They need to offer an outline or handout regarding their testing and treatment process. Or, maybe, I am just not understanding. I’m not the brightest bulb. lol. But shouldn’t their job be to explain things in a way people can understand?

It’s been so confusing. I’ve received incomplete instructions. I’ve received conflicting dates of treatment *and* conflicting instructions from, both, the endocrinologist’s office and nuclear medicine. They need a meeting!

I have a better time dealing with my anxiety when there is a coherent plan or strategy to deal with the issue.

I will wait until I’m less upset about it to propose these suggestions bc after its all said and done I want to help make this easier for the next person.

If I have to go through this procedure again in the future, I will likely choose a different endo and hospital.
