Navajo Rabbit,

I spent today's session planning for how I'm going to mark Steve's birthday next week.
Just so happens that the last session of the year falls on that day.

Lots of discussion, a plan was formed...and then I checked the weather, which looks like it's going to scupper things.

Hoping that the forecast becomes more favourable over time.

That's really cool, CNS! They're like honoring you considering they don't invite all the teachers. Are you/can you continue to do classes there?

So IOP is NOT for me right now. Insurance won't pay for both IOP and L at the same time. And come the new year, it looks like I'll have to pay $35 a day. It's 5 days a week for 6-8 weeks. That's a lot of money that we don't have. And leaving L for that long right before her leave...

But more progress was made! L and I had a session with H last night. It went really well. Both got along and even felt like they were on the same page now. I think this session was overdue. It made me feel really supported having both together. We all agreed my meds need to change and I need a new pdoc. L says she is trying her best to help me before her leave.

I also saw a neurologist today. She agrees that my memory problems are not normal at my age. She wants to do a PET scan. She actually got to see my memory falter. I forgot the word "Lithium". And she saw my hand tremors. But she does think the main cause is psychological stress.

Hi Couch,

Thank you for the empathy regarding my predicament about Steve's birthday.
I rang the helpline and managed to have a last conversation with my main contact (for this year.)

It's hard to honour it all.

I'm no closer to knowing what I want to do, either.

Hope your Friday's being kind to you.

Take care,

Lost

Hugs, Scarlet. I can see why IOP is the wrong choice for you right now.

Glad your session with L and H went well!

And I hope they find answers and a solution for your neurological issues. Maybe I've asked this before, but are you on any meds that are mainly classified as seizure meds (many are used for other things), like Topamax? I know that one in particular can cause cognitive issues, including memory problems. I looked into it at one point for treating migraines, but declined it because I can't do my job with major memory/brain fog issues. I think similar meds can do the same. Or else some other medication you're on or a combination of them?

And you've been checked for B12 levels, right? Low levels of that can cause cognitive issues, too. And I think maybe tremors. Low magnesium can definitely cause tremors. Checking for both can be done through Labcorp or Quest or whatever lab your insurance uses, so could be worth checking if you haven't.
Thanks for this!

Hugs, Lost. Glad you were able to talk to your contact at the helpline. And sorry you're unsure what you want to do. I know you mentioned the weather being an issue for what you had planned--could you maybe do what you were planning on a day other than his birthday? Even if it's early next year?

Also, I got the sense (if I'm wrong, sorry!) it was about writing on something ceramic, then breaking it. Could you maybe write on paper and rip it up instead? Or crumple it up and throw it in a trashcan? At least, for the actual day, then do the ceramic another time?

Hi LT,

Thank you for your understanding.
I feel like I might be overreacting, but wind makes it feel like a no go at least for now.

If the focus is on me staying upright, then it's not on the practice itself.
As I said to Hannah...'Being me, I've already looked it up, and the next time the dates align is next June, for the fourth anniversary.'

Having a session on his birthday feels like a gift (not sure I'd go as far as divine intervention right now...)

Time doesn't feel like it's on my side with this, either.

Hoping that R will have some thoughts.

It's hard to find a way to honour him whilst also honouring my experience.

I've done the write and rip/crumple rituals on my own, but I'd like to use this time with R well.

Hope that makes sense,

Lost

Which one are you watching, sd?

For Couchies who like wildlife cams, explore.org has several options, including a puppy cam, a panda yard, bird nests.... I don't see rhinos or giraffes, though.

NamibiaCam- they actually have 3 live cams
Perigine Falcons in Orange Australia - I think it is called Falconcam Project
Allen Birdcam - which is a bird feeder in South Africa and gets some really cool birds and at night fruit bats, bush babies, and genets

Thanks, LT. I haven't had by B12 checked in years. And I don't think I've ever had magnesium checked.

I asked the pharmacist if any of my meds cause memory issues. She said yes Vraylar and I got off of it. I know Gabapentin caused me memory issues, too. I think Lithium made my tremors worse, though I still have them and I've been off Lithium for awhile. I just want my old med combo back.

Hi Couch,

I hope today is being kind to you.
It's the weekend, so I know I shouldn't be thinking about work.

However, my boss (the one who isn't leaving) sent me feedback on my first mentoring session of this year on Wednesday.

It all made sense, until she suggested reducing my live mentoring sessions to 30 minutes.

Since when does 'You're so good at your job, we want you to do less...' make sense?

Also, if she wants me to do 30 minute sessions, there's little point in them being in person.
I need to have a phone call with her, but I have a check in with the helpline on Monday that I can't miss...given Everything Else.

Am I going mad?

Hugs, Lost. That does sound confusing. I'd definitely clarify why she suggested less time. Could it possibly be that she wants you to be able to mentor more people in your time there?

At my parent's vacation condo solo for a few days to relax. This is the first time I've been in December--it's quite chilly (same at home), though supposed to be milder Monday. And unseasonably warm Tuesday, which of course is when I'm heading home (we have a virtual session with the parenting therapist at 2, so I can't stay longer--unless I stay till Wednesday morning, I guess).

Thanks, LT.

I've cut my workload down this year, so that I'm just mentoring one student.
The suggestion was that I focus on more in-depth written feedback, and reduce the live sessions to 30 minutes.

She reckons mentoring is about more than the work produced.

If I think about it being anything more, then I end up thinking about Steve....and that's near impossible to explain.

I'm hoping that we can schedule a call on Monday morning when I send my timesheet in.

Appreciate the validation that it's an unusual ask.

Lost

I found a lost love - Pamuk!

You may remember him from Mary's boudoir on Downton Abbey, being carried out feet first!

I came across a series on netflix today with Giancarlo Esposito, with whom i also like to uh chill - and as i researched the cast, i realized this modern day duke hero of The Gentlemen was HIM - also the face of Hugo Boss.
Thanks for this!

One of many favorite exchanges
Dowager Countess of Grantham: Oh my dears. Is it really true? I can't believe it. Last night he looked so well. Of course, it *would* happen to a foreigner. It's typical.

Lady Mary Crawley: Don't be ridiculous.

Dowager Countess of Grantham:
I'm not being ridiculous. No Englishman would dream of dying in someone else's house - especially somebody they didn't even know.

If I'm right in thinking that latkes are made from potatoes, I'm not sure how peanut butter is even a part of the equation.

Mind you, I'm in Anniversary Time limbo, so I could be completely wrong.

I would not have thought white potatoes and peanut butter to be palatable but I know some people who dip potato chips in jars of peanut butter. I am not a huge white potato eater to begin with. I like sweet potato with peanut butter so maybe sweet potato latkes would work.
