My T is teaching me this. I am to being a small stone in to next session....
then I close my eyes and see me as a child calm and collected and carefree while I rub the stone. After a while, by rubbing the stone I can calm myself.... this is supposed to help me with social anxiety.

that makes sense. a type of transferrence... transferring the idea of safety and programming your mind to accept this new state of being.

I think that's a great idea. I wonder if T would do something like that with me with the marble he gave me? I guess I could try to do it myself, but then it wouldn't have T's "magic" in it ![]() |

Hi Halliebeth,
I do something like this. I have a smooth stone from a favorite place (a nearby beach which is a favorite place for me). I keep it in my pocket. When I am in difficult situations, I can reach into my pocket and think of being at my favorite place - both mentally, and also through the feelings in my fingers as I hold the cool, smooth stone. In fact, I have multiple smooth stones in different locations, in two jackets, in my purse,and in my backpack. They come in handy! I hope it proves helpful for you too. It has really helped me out a lot. It's one of the best ideas that has helped me calm myself in a variety of stressful situations. Wishing you well, ErinBear
