SO, like I had considered, I did take Benedict -the now famous armadillo- with me to the DO (osteopath) today to help the lil's from panicking with touch and switching in.
It worked =)
Fun thing was that everyone there (you'll see more) was so cool about it, asking his name and a little about him. =)
Just having him there was a reason for me to say that I had had difficulties last time, that I do have parts and switch when triggered, which led to discussion about how to keep me more present there (since when T returns I have to part with Benedict) and my very nice DO asked if talking helps (keep me grounded) which, it turns out, it does. A very good session =)
WHile i was waiting there I talked with my housing advocate and we're all over the map, topic wise. It's funny. We talked about cats, people, plants, Benedict, and how we both have stuffies all over =) I brought him out and she said she also has a stuffy armadillo! Too funny. We talked for near an hour and have both (on separate occasions) thought that we were not meant to be humans in this life, but cats! And somehow that request went awry. I often tell people it is like when you sign up for electives in high school; first choice :CAT second choice: CAT Third choice :Human if i have to, but hopefully i won't get that.
It's nice to have a good day - i REALLY needed one.
Kiya
PS she even saw my art portfolio and liked it =)

((((KT, Earthmama)))))))

yeah =) thanks. She is such the nicest lady, the dr. I never really know what I am doing there - she's like part dr, chiropractor, therapist, stress manager.... she started with the usual "how are you" and i tried to shrug out of that one. But she just stayed silent each time i said something so that i expanded on each thing. I told her my t was out of town and how hard that is... and she asked if i needed to be seeing someone else during this time. I mean... ok, how cool is that? that she would care or suggest something that's not even her field... I know they all work together in this same clinic - it each time astounds me how they WORK together... you know? They're all inter-related. So it was easy to show Benedict and explain that he lives in T's office and how she sent him home with me to keep me company.
Thinking back, I know the hands were lightly stroking Benedict's fur when the session started, and then at some point they went numb and i could not feel the fur at all. I think they stopped moving. And i think that was then the visual cue for the dr. to see that i was dissociating and is when she asked if talking would help me stay present. Wow - Benedict has two jobs =)

Your T will probably let you keep the armadillo once you tell him/her how much it means to you.
When are you going to be able to move? Kiya and Benedict go to the Dr. Kiya and Benedict go to the Dr.

Sounds like you are getting good coordinated care. Benedict seems like a nice addition to you treatment at this point.

yeah....agreed. it scares me sometimes, chaotic!! but having Benedict with me is nice. I think i will take him with me to Yoga for Depression tomorrow since I tend to dissociate in there a lot!
