On the way home from therapy this evening I left T a message (my usual after session processing). After that I don't remember anything until I found myself at a bridge. I panicked for a second, not recognizing where the heck I was. Then I realized I had missed my exit and went in the complete opposite direction of my home. I had to pay a toll, go over the bridge, turn around and then head home. I have spaced out before but this completely bugged me out especially when I first noticed I didn't know where I was.
WTF? Ummm, the session was definitely quite charged. But, jeeze. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I hate the feeling when you suddenly realize you were driving unconsciously. (((Miss C))) hope your charged session does have any other adverse affects.

Gosh, I know that feeling all too well! It is really tough to distinguish.
I wonder if there is a way you can "check" yourself and try to be more aware of what you are doing or where you are right after T. I find dissociation worse right after T. I think because maybe you are more focused on what you had just talked about and may be mulling it over in your head?! IDK, just a thought. BJ

MC, Yes I've had times like that...I think the deeper we get in therapy the more times like that happen..BUT the positive news is that its because big changes are going on within us and I think and the outside seems less important...a wonderful place to be eventually I think,

Yeah, I do that too. Especially after the deep sessions. It is scary. One thing that can help some is to change the subject at the end and talk about something else for long enough to get grounded a bit. But if you sit in your car for half an hour writing down the things from the session that you need to try to remember, the dissociation comes back again.
The other thing that I do is I have books on tape, and I plan what I'm listening to so that I'll hopefully be involved in the story at the time when I'm driving home. I can tell when either the story isn't powerful enough, or the session was really intense, when I barely even notice when a CD finishes and I have to listen to it again because I didn't catch enough to know what's going on. But if I get it right (choose a story that I can get into, and be far enough into it to care about the story), then it helps. I drive 2 1/2 hours each way for therapy, so if I'm dissociating too much to drive that's a big problem.
