After finishing partial hospitalization, I'm looking into day treatment programs. Most of the PH enrollees end up going to day treatment.

Medicare won't cover where I went for PH because it's a hospital--they don't cover hospital-based DT. They do--supposedly--cover "freestanding clinic" DT programs. Can't get good coverage policy info on that-HELP! If anyone is well-informed. Community Mental Health Clinic is the formal term used by Medicare, I think.

What I'm running into, aside from Medicare paying is:

A. There really aren’t' that many.
B. The population served is more generally people who are low-functioning (I'm not) as told to me by the PH staff and my T--and it seems to be true for the programs I've talked to.
C. A lot of the stuff out there is DBT-based.

I'm high functioning. I've taken a full=-blow DBT course for something like 6 months in the past and just completed a quick version of it in PH. I don't want to do DBT again. I want process group stuff, some structure, get out of the house for a chunk of time--3/4 hours a day--a few times a week, get support from others and stuff in dealing with some things and some "skills" and maybe T and pdoc referrals.

Are people familiar with Day Treatment and what's to be found in those programs?

I would say that has been my (fairly limited) experience.

Since so many of the PH enrollees do these programs, perhaps the PH staff keeps a list of programs in your area they could give you. You could inquire at all the places on the list and see if any of them suit your needs. If the PH people don't have a list, could you just ask some of the staff at PH? Ones you met while you are there and who are knowledgeable? If you tell them you are most interested in a process group, and not DBT, maybe they will be able to direct you to some good ones. As for the T and pdoc referrals, could you get some ideas for those from the PH people also? They know you somwhat now and so might be able to think of who would be a good fit for you in your area.

Another place to seek information in your area would be your local branch of NAMI. They often are up to date on what is available in one's area.

Thanks, Sunrise et al.

I usu attempt to be all-inclusive in my reporting, but not this time around.

My PH program gave me info on a number of programs. I've checked with (almost?) all but am having the problems with: functioning level and acceptance of Medicare. I find a lot of programs can't say whether they take Medicare or not--they just don't know or think they don't. Program staff are usu. not well-informed about ins. Medicare operates in its own sphere when it comes to insurance coverage. Trying to get Medicare to tell you about locations in your area for given treatments is virtually useless, I’ve found.

I posted on a NAMI board. There's a local mental health assoc. that I'll post on and try again to make direct contact with them again.

I went to a free, brief therapy place staffed by pro-bono T's and met with someone advised that I talk to County Soc. Services and get a case manager who can then help with finding programs--hopefully. She printed out some resources--but I already knew about them. See her next week, but I doubt she'll know anything more on resources.

I've regressed back4-5 weeks to when I was really bad off--I've put a lot of effort into looking for DT and have come up with nothing--yet. Down to a few options. I always do a LOT of research on my own, but not having a local T who's tied into this stuff directly is a problem. In crisis, I’m still using my NYC T for the immediate. Hopefully I can get someone good with the County to get better inside info.

But it’s all Sisyphean as I get directed to the same, unhelpful, resources over and over.
