Does your T talk about other clients to you... ?

And if so, in what context?

Only anonymously if it applies to what we are talking about. Like she might say "I had another client who also struggled with x, y, z. And she found that this helped her." Or something like that.

Yes. I do not find it useful. Often she is telling me how other clients have been helped by her and their responses to her.

On occasion, completely anonymously. I wouldn't have a clue who he is referring to. Usually it's something along the line of "I was just having this conversation with another client yesterday . . ." or something like that. A few times he's talked about another client as an example of what he is discussing, so a little more detail (still completely unidentifiable).

Never. I couldnt trust him if he talked about others.
The only things he talked about was boundaries with patients (he told me he never hugged any of them etc) and if i ask something about meds he could say about some experiences but i think its not talking about other clients, i dont know anything about them and i hope they know nothing about me
Thanks for this!

Current T only once that I remember and it was more to say he had experience with a particular issue I mentioned than and he kept them completely anonymous
old T - often did to the point I wondered how he described me to others
First T - talked more about herself or other clients than she replied directly to me ... Did it our first conversation and continued from there

no, not really. Maybe to say, I had another client who liked this book or it helped them..

He does have some specific groups that he works with...that involve men...and I have asked if my perception of things was reflected in those groups...and he might answer in a way to either validate my feelings or give me a different perspective.

I do not like seeing other clients coming or going or sitting in the lobby for other T's and such. I get very uncomfortable and don't look up or around...

It's very rare the topic of other clients arises. Perhaps a handful of times, and she never ever mentions anything like specifics.

For example, a few days ago I was talking about how I had difficulty connecting at times, bringing my emotions to the surface, and asked if she knew what that was like. She said her issue had been the opposite, but she'd had clients who struggled with that and she did understand how difficult it was.

The only specific mention I recall her making (when we were talking about my dog, I think, or dogs in general and how therapeutic their presence could be) was to say that she once saw a client who brought her dog in, and the dog used to go sit by my therapist, the only anecdote about therapy I've really ever heard her tell, and it sounded like something long past.

No. It would not benefit me in any way. I could better enhance my therapy experience by giving myself a swirly in the office toilet.

Only in the most general and anonymous of ways. For example, once she made the comment that most of her client base are a particular group of people.

A PrevT...in the early '90's....would dictate inpatient patient notes in front of me...while I was also an inpatient. I was in the hospital with these people.

It made me feel special at the time. I didn't realize how wrong it was until much later.

She has occasionally but it is very vague and without any patient identifiers. She has also mentioned that there were things that I have said that really made her think and she uses it with other clients but always reminds me that it is completely anonymous.

Once or twice in 10 months he talked about a FORMER client. I didn't find it helpful but it didn't bug me.

My old therapist did quite a bit. Once he talked about the lady who was ahead of me and told me a lot of her issues. I thought it was really inappropriate.

My new therapist hasn't done this at all, yet.

Mine hasn't and I think it would bother me. I'd wonder what she says about me.

I just remembered this. Had totally forgotten. Several years back, I became aware that two of my students were also seeing my T because we happened to run into each other there. It was really okay. It was bound to happen. I wasn't particularly worried about it, nor were they apparently, but T did take a few minutes to let me know what he had said to them pertaining to running into me at their therapist's office -- the proverbial elephant in the room. They apparently were quite cool with it as was I.

That is the only time we ever discussed specific clients, and even then, it was only in the context of being sure we were all comfortable with the situation and were respectful of each others' privacy. He handled it so well that it was really a complete non-issue for all involved.

Any other references have been to completely nameless/faceless clients that were completely innocuous references.
Thanks for this!

Yes and I know he talks about me too (goes hand in hand). I stopped seeing him because if I ever told him any of my secrets I would not want them repeated.

No. Never. She is super strict about anything to do with her other clients. I have asked her if she has ever worked with anyone presenting with issues like me and she wouldn't even tell me that. Just that she had worked with many clients over the years. It's frustrating but very safe.

Very rarely and never with any identifying information. Mostly to tell me something he thinks might be useful to me.
