rudi,
After I researched and decided that I wanted to try psychoanalytic/psychodynamic therapy, I contacted a training institute in the nearest metropolitan city near me. Some of the institutes provide therapy right there at the institute. The one near me did not. I asked if they had any candidates who were in practice in my area. A candidate can be someone who is already a therapist and who is studying psychoanalysis. To be a candidate they must be highly qualified. I felt this process would help me feel I was choosing someone trustworthy. I was looking for a female therapist and I was so lucky--they had one in my area! I was getting around by bus at that time, 2 years ago, and she was even accessable by bus. She has been a therapist for 20 years and I adore her. One more note, I was determined that my therapist should be a Psychologist. As it turns out, she is a LMHC (licensed mental health counselor) with a Masters degree in early childhood development. I researched the LMHC designation and I liked what I read (I didn't expect to). But the bottom line is I love this therapy. It is interesting and fun a lot of the time. I like exploring and discovering that there is even more to explore. I love that I think about something and she encourages me to go further with it. I love that things can be talked about again and again, at any time. I love that there are no rules except this "rule" about what to talk about: Anything and everything that comes to mind. I love that no one tells me, or implies, that I don't "think right". The journey through my thinking and perceptions is to find out more, to follow paths backwards, and see if and where they branch off. It is a matrix and it is ever fascinating. I hope the links below are helfpul to you. Feel free to PM me anytime. http://www.apsa.org/MEMBERDIRECTORYb...2/Default.aspx http://www.div39outreach.org/search%...nstitutes.html |
