Hope I am posting this in the right category, but I need some advice on how to get my ex bf's computer out of my apartment. He left his large 65 lb computer at my place when he moved out. He told me he'd make arrangements to send me the money to have it shipped back to him, but he still hasn't done that. He got sick and had to go to the hospital and then rehab so I haven't heard from him in like a month. He should be out already or getting out within the next few days. I don't know if i should just wait to hear from him again or try to take matters in my own hands. I'd pay for it myself if I had the money and I was sure I would get paid back for it. It's going to cost like $150-180 to have it shipped back to him since he lives in Wyoming. He gave me his dad's paypal email address to request money and I've tried requesting it like 4 times from him and I got no response back.
I looked on the FedEx website and there doesn't seem to be a way for me to bill him directly or have them send a paypal request to his dad. They just seem to want a credit card and I don't have his Dad's or his credit card info. Normally, this wouldn't be such a big deal, but I need the computer out of my apartment by a certain time. I am moving in a few weeks and I don't want to have to take it to my new apartment. Any advice you have for me would be much appreciated. Thanks. |

Well, I'd tell him to get the pc (or make arrangements) by such and such date, if he doesn't call the salvation army, they will be happy to come pick it up. Don't let it stress you out.

Hey, I looked up an estimate about how much it would cost to ship via Fedex if they came and picked it up. The cheapest was 3 day delivery at $55 bucks.

Thanks for responding. I have thought about calling the Salvation Army or trying to sell it, but it isn't my property (it's just in my apartment) and I don't wanna get into any type of legal trouble for doing that.
I don't know where you are getting that it's $55. The estimate I saw was like $180. The thing is it's a heavy package and I don't own a car so I don't have the ability to drop it off at a local FedEx. I also work most of the day from Monday to Friday so I would need someone from FedEx to come pick it up on a Saturday. They also charge extra for Saturdays it seems. I could probably arrange for someone else to go to my apartment on a weekday to get it out of here though which would make it a little cheaper. Even if it is just $55, I wouldn't be sure i'd get that money back if I did pay it. I do think I am gonna send an email to both him and his Dad asking them to send the money within the next week. |

agree....I would have called him and tell him that I need the PC to get out by a certain time and if not, I don't have a choice except donate it to charity....and don't take stress over the PC....it's just a PC!

Hey Melinda,
Since you are worried about the legality of what you are doing with the ex's computer, I suggest this.....keep records of all phone calls/email's (have copies of phone bill's and emails) you have made to get this taken care of. If you have no response, or a response but they don't follow through on getting you the money to ship it, then I would call the Salvation Army to come and pick it up. You can also call an attorney to see what the law says in your state about stuff like this.....initial calls are usually free to the attorney's. Good luck! sabby |

Do you have/still have any joint friends near where you live who would be willing to come pick it up and take on the transfer?

I did send various requests to his dad via paypal like he told me to do a month ago and I have yet to receive a response or any money for the shipping. I will try contacting them both today through email and telling them the importance of the situation. They may be having problems with money and are unable to pay now though.
I feel that I already did cut him some slack cuz he's sick cuz it has been over a month since we talked. Also, he is only sick cuz he's an alcoholic so I feel that he brought the problems onto himself. He did the damage to his liver since he never even attempted to stop drinking. He wasn't gonna seek treatment, but he had jaundice and his hands and feet were inflames shortly after he moved back home. I just sent an email to Fedex customer service asking if there's any way they could send a billing request or invoice to him. No, we don't have any mutual friends in the area who could keep the computer. He didn't make any friends while he was here. |
