I started to get off the bus at the back because it was a little closer to my destination, but I wanted to thank the driver, so I turned and went up the aisle and told him thanks. He said "you're welcome and have a good evening". I said "you too." Then I turned around and looked him in the eye and said "And watch out for bad drivers." He thought about it for a second and his face lit up and he laughed a little and he said "I'll do that". I told him I always told my son that. When I am in the grocery store I tell the clerks "don't let them work you too hard." I get a variety of responses to that. I've lived in my neighborhood a long time. It makes me feel connected to recognize people.

It sure is.
I was waiting in the car while my husband ran into a restautant to get some takeout food for us. I was a little nervous because it wasn't an official parking place. I'm legally blind, so it would be tricky for me if I were forced to move the vehicle. It was taking a while, and my nerves got the best of me. I started to roll down my window as I took out a cigarette - but there was a "Man in Blue" right there up close and personal. It startled me, so I shreiked. The Man in Blue became startled and jumped back too. He was just a homeless guy in the area who likes to keep the place clean. I said "I'm sorry, I thought you were a cop about to tell me to move - I just needed a smoke." He said "I thought YOU were a cop about to tell ME to move." With my tinted windows, he didn't see me inside and thought it would be okay to take a cigarette break. That was a great connection AND break - and nobody got arrested! ![]() |

It's amazing how little it takes to make a connection with another human being. Simple, genuine kindness works wonders and opens hearts...
You sound like a really nice person! |
