I’m thinking of a pet name to give my girlfriend and I was wondering if you guys could help me out with some ideas. She calls me her Bear Bear sometimes because she says I am always doing cute things for her and cuddling her. I used to call Jessica Angel Girl so I am looking for something unique and similar to that instead of overused names like honey or darling. Mandy has the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen and long blonde hair so I'm thinking maybe I should make it about her eyes or the colour of her hair. What do you guys think?

I don't know; I'd try to think of something that's about her alone; blue eyes and blonde hair aren't that unique? You "do cute things for her" so she gave you a cute name, what does she do for you? She could be your "Cuddle Bunny" or "Swedish Fox" (blonde and blue eyed :-) but since she calls you an animal name, I'd do something "parallel" if only so you can buy her stuffed animals and other things with that animal representation?

I have been thinking of one to call her all night and I might go with princess or Angel. Cuddle bunny sounds good too but I was hoping to come up with something more original like Angel Girl. I can't call her a girl because she is four years older than me and I think she would prefer to be called a woman. Mandy already is a nickname as her proper name is Amanda but she doesn't like being called that.

Anyways I'm off to bed with my angel

IMO the pet name should come from you and eventually it will.

Pet names will come in time and will be unique to the relationship, give it some time and the right pet name will come

It's the meaning and thought behind it that matters

Thanks for all the suggestions. Boo Boo would be funny and I actually called Mandy Angel Eyes last night when we were in bed afterrain and she just looked at me and said I was cute. I am going to try to come up with something even better in time though. You would think with the amount of poems I have been writing her it would be easy but when it comes down to choosing one word it’s hard.

I think my fiance and I were together for a couple of years before our nicknames started... Mine for him is Lovie, and his for me is Darling Dearest. The reason I call him Lovie is because when me and my sister were little we had our blankets and stuffed animals and my mom would call them Lovies. Whenever we went on a long trip anywhere she'd say "Do you have your lovies??" And he just sort of became my Lovie cause I always wanted him with me.

Anyways, what I"m trying to say is that the right nickname will come in time. It'll just flow out of your mouth and feel right to both of you. I don't think you really need to think about it so much or try to force it.

I'm personally a little worried you're trying to force this relationship to be perfect, to fit a model that you have in your head of what a perfect relationship looks like. There's going to be bumps along the way, and while I'm very happy that you've found someone that loves you and cares about you as much as you love and care about them, I don't want you to rush or force anything. Just try to relax, breathe deep, take things day by day.

I hope this wasn't offensive. I'm really rooting for you!! Good luck!!
Thanks for this!

No offense taken. I appreciate your advice and seeing though this is my first real relationship in eight years I am a bit inexperienced when it comes to some things even though Jessica and I were very mature for our ages when we were together and I learned a lot from Rachel. I guess there is some part of me that does want to have the same kind of relationship I had with Jessica with Mandy and it is hard not to but I know I can’t. That doesn’t mean we can’t have a relationship on the same level though but it has to be different and unique in its own way.

I don’t want to rush things but I think to some degree Mandy does. She is very forward and she told me today she wants to wants to have a baby before she turns thirty so I am under the impression that means she wants to have a baby with me in the next two years. I would love to have a kid with her because I think she would be a great Mother and I always wanted a daughter but I worry if a year or two (if we are still together then which I think we will be) is too early.

I think living together has really brought us closer together and it could be seen as an attribute if we go into marriage as many people don’t live with their partners beforehand so they don’t know what it is like to live with them and some (like a bloke I used to work with) get divorced because they can’t stand living with each other. Mandy and I love living together and everything has been great. I only asked her to move in so she would have a place to stay while she was looking for a house because she didn’t feel comfortable staying with her parents and now she wants to stay with me until we both move out. We have time to ourselves like now. I am on the computer while she’s watching TV and she goes out and hangs around with her friends while I work at my new job.

I have lived with two women already so I am probably more experienced in this field. Jessica and I would sleep over each other’s houses every night from when we were very little and we shared the same bed up until she passed away. Our parents didn’t mind because they trusted us. I also moved in with Rachel and lived with her up until she passed away but we were only friends. Mandy has only lived with one other bloke apart from her brothers. I know I shouldn’t be trying to force the name and I should just let it come natural but I only wanted to have one for her because she has one for me.

I think that pet names in relationship come from within and only you can think of one. It’s something like a joke among you which makes both of giggle while everyone is unable to understand what is so funny. To me it seems to be a very intimate thing in a relationship which shouldn’t be shared with public. But since you have asked, I would suggest blue tweety.
