I am so angry at the moment , got on facebook about half an hour ago.
A message had come up that i had been sending friend requests to people that i didnt know and that it was not allowed. I don't get on facebook very often and the last time i did was about 2 days ago to edit all my settings and had not been on it for about a month and no i have not sent any requests to anyone !!!
I just thought what the **** ? So i have deactivated it, but im now worried and wondering who it might have been who had sent a false report to facebook.... i'm like, well was it someone i have met at one of the support groups i had gone to in the past , as there was a person that i had met and became quite friendly with which ended in a very narsty way.
I do know worring myself sick about it will not make anything better, as i'm aware if it is who i think it is i will just have to deal with the consequences. I feel at times that i'm better off just keeping to myself.
I am so glad i found this site, and hopefully i will at least meet or be able to talk to an relate to other people and also hopefully make a few friends.

Is Facebook really worth having? The short answer is no.

I personally have never been on Facebook, I have heard too much negetive about it.
I think that it opens one up to abuse that is SO not necessary. I am sure there are people that have nothing better to do than pick on others to boost up their own self esteem in some sick way. Who wants to dedicate their time to be involved in that?
Not me, and I have just heard too much negetive about that, it is just not worth it.

shazza, welcome to PC, the members here are much nicer and I find the majority of them to be very supportive people. I think your wise to stay away from facebook.

It's worth having, not obsessing over. A post ever couple of months...that's okay.

I use facebook only to comunicate with family I don't get to see as often as I'd like. I keep my friends to the bare minimum and only share info that I wouldn't care if it were published in the news paper..

i enjoy it..it allows me to connect with friends in different parts of the country..my job took me all over the place & many of my friends work hither & yon...this way we can easily share pix & "chat"

do i carefully select for friends people i don't know? yes.
do i watch what i post? yes.
does it control my life? no.

i think it is just one more way today to connect with people..no different than e mail, cell phones etc...& with each one you need to use caution & not be stupid or extreme.

to each his (or her) own..to me the plus side is that i "know" the people on facebook...in real life...there is a real connection to events..& there can be discussions something which can not happen here on pc...

to me..i am not going to "friend" anyone i do not know..so that limits the negative comments & such (to the extent that i can not control what other people say..whether on facebook, pc or in real life) ..but if i do find something that is offensive i remove them from my list & block them. much as i would in real life...if someone is rude and annoying i would take steps to avoid them...

there are people here on pc i do not care for..i avoid their posts...

i think it is what ever you are comfortable with..for me it allows me to be in touch with friends around the country in a way that would not be as easy otherwise.

I agree with you, I think it is really good that you have friends and family that you can talk to on facebook, I had about 25 I think but all I could see was arguing and tbh I just didn't get it I have enough of that in real life.

What you said above you use it very wisely and you make sense, but I know some that don't and it is those that really annoy me, I do use MSN though I don't think many use that these days though.

I've had no problems with Facebook whatsoever. But I only correspond with family and friends (real friends; you know, the people you are actually friends with in real life). I have my security settings set well, and I don't friend anyone I don't know. I don't obsess about it. I may get on once or twice a week for a few minutes. It is a great way to keep up with people you don't get to see all that often such as extended family and old friends from college and high school.

To be honest, it's not facebook itself but the people. I have a few old college friends who currently lives in Australia, Korea and Canada and it's so easy to say hey hows it going. I just don't like it when people stalk and judge you in your photos and what you talk about in your status'. Also hate it when you drift apart from once very close friends and they're getting on great and doesn't make any effort to see how you're doing. Facebook unfortunately highlights that for me.

I had it because it was nice to hook back up with people from say HS I hadn't seen in 20 years. But after I reconnected with them, I wanted to not talk with them for another 20 years. So I got rid of it

You account info was probably phished. You need to change your pw, or be careful of signing into that site. Fb is a scary website imo, many opportunities to get virus's malware. Also I don't trust Mark Zutherburg with all my private info, and who knows who these third party affiliates are that ask for access to you info.

I do use fb, I have friends in other parts of the country that I like to keep in contact with and it's also a source of alternative news and media, but I like to be very cautious about what I do on that site.
Thanks for this!

I had Facebook last year, then deleted my account, feeling it was invasive. If I want to contact people, I'll do so either personally or thru email. Then, for some unknown reason, I activated my account again this past month. I post thoughts, and no one responds, which is kind of degrading, making me feel flawed. I'm going to delete it!
