I have a girlfriend who lives in Germany and I live in America. We have been together for over a year now and I actually met her here in America her first time visiting. It was amazing because we just hit it off but just as good friends. She made me happy just being there with her and we didn't become official until a couple weeks after she got back home to Germany. We plan to see each other and hold each other for the first time in July(I will be going there to visit) but until then I would love to hear of some advice anyone has on how to keep this going, we skype just about every day and of course we make sure we live actual social lives but what i am asking is if anyone has any ideas on how to change it up a bit. I fear after so long I will miss her too much to go on, is there anything i can do to make her feel like I am there with her? We have written letters to each other, sent all sorts of gifts, watched movies together, etc. Just looking for some advice for my LDR Thank you so much for reading this! I hope anyone can help!

Hi Nicholas -- It's great that you two were actually able to meet already. Long distance relationships are difficult to say the least. Usually they aren't able to meet as soon as you've been able to, especially when one lives overseas!

I think you've been able to do just able everything humanly possible. Just make sure you stay open and honest with each other if you plan on making this some sort of commitment. Without honesty, you won't make it as is true with any relationship.

You say you're afraid you'll miss her too much after too long? You mean you don't think you can be true after so long, right? Evidently you're not that sure of the relationship, correct? It can't be just raging hormones cause you can't expect her to "put out" when you see her in July, so it must be you just aren't that sure, correct? I'm confused.

Anyway, so far you're doing what you should, so good luck and keep us posted. God bless. Hugs, Lee

Nicholas, first off, congratulations on your relationship! This is wonderful, especially since long distance isn't always an easy thing to pull off. Good on you that you met her already too, that kind of solidifies things and gives you someone tangible to hold onto.

On advice, I think I pretty much agree with what Leed said. you're doing a lot of what you can do in a LD relationship. First off, keep it up!

In addition I don't know if these are viable options for you but I'll just throw them out there for you. I play games online and have a very close friend all the way in Australia. I'm in America too. We are both on PSN (playstation network) and will be playing games (and have a bit) online come January. It's great for more interaction than just a web cam conversation when you don't want just to talk but have some other kinds of fun too. The other option is PC Online multiplayer games. Even if you're not gamers per se, it might be worth looking into because more and more people are finding this to share in common nowadays. Just a thought

Another idea is a way to make your relationship even more real. google hangouts is a way to connect an entire group of people on webcams simultaneously to chat and talk. My thought is that if you bring some friends into the mix it will be like hanging out IRL and kind of makes your relationship more real by introducing your gf to them and vice versa and actually you could probably come up with ways to have a virtual party that way.

Just some thoughts.

Lee and S4ndm4an, first off i want to say thank you very much for replying and giving me advice! it means more to me than you know! Leed, what i meant was, there are days where i am longing for that physical comfort but only from her, no one else and it is just very very hard sometimes to want to continue on however she always knows what to say to make me feel better about it. S4ndm4n, that is a fantastic idea! I am a huge gamer myself, especially MMO's, honestly i dont know why i havent thought about this before! Thank you so much!! both of you!

You'll have to send me a list of your favorite mmos. Care for a new gamer partner (besides your Love) ? I am a big mmo player too but have taken a hiatus mostly because I get worn out solo'ing everything all the time.

Can I pm you!?

I've heard, but it's FPS. Not sure if I want to try it for that reason.

haven't played SC2 but the demo awhile back. I have played DCUO both on ps3 and on computer. That game is pretty fun actually. I actually have subbed with it on and off.

yeah that game is pretty good. what are some of the MMO's you are in to? have you checked out the new Elder Scrolls online? when that comes out i have a feeling that's the only game i'll be playing for the next few years.

yeah I know about Eldar Scrolls Online, not sure how I feel about it. Kind of worried the MMO aspect will take a lot away from what made the series so great, but that being said, if they can pull it off and hold true to those things, I will be there for awhile too! lol

The Secret World (Thinking about returning to this)
DCUO (as I said)
Everquest II

Others I've played but havent in a long time:
WoW (not planning to return lol)
LotRO
Champions Online
Tabula Rasa (old, but sad it went away)
Vindictus
Fallen Earth

... and many many others + a bunch of F2P games

The list is way too long to post here of what I've actually played but those cover most of the best ones I've played for a time.
