bill's company is probably going to transfer him to China. the senior chemist resigned due to family problems. bill is the only one that has been there, at that job level, and he's been told to get ready to go. i hate a certain big chemical company. how am i going to make lemonade out of this lemon? how am i going to make lemonade out of this lemon? how am i going to make lemonade out of this lemon?

the company is in a province where families never accompany employees........the employees generally live "in a condo-type commune chinese style house".......the last time he was there, there was no internet service where they lived and the computers are "fixed" to prevent e.mail accounts. he actually would e.mail me from airports...oh yes, no phones in the company houses.....it was a long and cold winter that year. it takes a very long time for a hand written letter to get to oklahoma from china. and vice versa.

p.s. this is the company that took bankruptcy when hundreds of thousands of women sued them over breast implants.........and they miraculously regained their financial stability and now they send their employees to places like the above.......no wonder i'm so furious about this......he is actually talking about leaving them.........but that is a whole different color of cat.....$$$$$$$$

i'm sure that i'll adjust.......i just need some help on it. this could take place as soon as friday.

I hope he leaves them for your sake.

Money's nice but no job is worth all the love he'll be leaving behind...

You have my best wishes. I hope it turns out ok.

he's so close to retirement and i'd like to know that he would soon be free to do whatever we wanted to do..he would lose a lot if he left now.......it's the proverbial see-saw.......the company did come up, just now, with a better offer of only 6 months.........

(((((((((((((( Pat )))))))))))))))))

I hope he's able to stay with you. You need money to live on, but it sure can't cure true loneliness.

How ironic that this company is once again hurting you.

You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs,

Jan

Is it one of those things where if you have been with a company for several years you get x amount of benefits when you leave/retire?

If so ... often that is tooooo valuable to throw away ... sounds horrible but ... if one is that close to retiring best to keep those benefits right? Otherwise may need to work into retirement age etc ...

Sucks but why could he not barter a little? They want his skills badly, he should be talking to them about how they would facilitate him staying in contact with his family. It sounds like he is in a fairly senior position - if they want him that badly over there surely he has some negotiation power?

it sounds like a poopy situation ... good luck ...

fayerody . . . ((((((((huggs))))))) . . . that'd be difficult for the heart . . .

Maybe you could email and vent about that company to Lou Dobbs since he hates outsourcing of U.S. companies and also hates the Communist China regime? The media have some power.

negoiations are going on now...........and yes, his benefits are very generous, as is his retirement....leaving them now would be losing almost half of what he has accrued.......and he's close to retiring.

jennie, thanks for the suggestion. but i think it's best to let him work this out with the company. the six months shift wouldn't be so bad.....six months passes fairly quickly. we've been together five years and three of those he's been out of the country.

i'm just packing and looking forward...one box at a time, staying focused on getting rid of more of my stuff....... how am i going to make lemonade out of this lemon?

that STINKS, Ethel! Ok, well you won't move to China, but a few visits are definitely in order, right?

Hi Pat,
Since being back here I have really had to do some catching up. I am sorry to hear about everything that you've had to go through, I'm just glad Bill didn't go to China! Maybe he will be closer and everything will work out easier. I wish you luck and a lot of love!

Love and Best Wishes,
Zen
