My recently ex boyfriend has suffered from depression a few years before he got a full time job and met me. This year he started university after being away from a school environment for a long time. The stress of having no money, pressure on himself to do well and pressure to maintain a loving relationship gradually became too much for him, and he broke up with me saying he needed to be alone for a while and find himself again. I am starting to wonder now if he did this because depression has formed into his life again and he is used to dealing with it on his own. We have hung out, he has initiated cuddled and a kiss since our break up, we are remaining close and I know he does care/love me.
I don’t know whether I should assure him that if he needs me I am here for him or if I should say to him that I know he doesn't find anything enjoyable any more (he has said that to me) but why? or what should I do? I will continue to support his decisions through everything and give him the space he needs, but I don’t know if I should reach out and try and help or not. Can anyone help?

Its called a break up for a reason. All he has done is confuse the hell out of you because you dont know if he wants you or not. You should ask him to clearly define what you mean to him to see if he still wants to be in a relationship with you.
Thanks for this!

I think you should assure him that you'll be there for him, but set boundaries. If he wants to date you, he needs to commit to doing so. If he wants to be friends, he needs to commit to being just friends. He needs to decide and not constantly switch back and forth.

It's not fair for him to lead you along if he's not in a place where he can be responsible.
Thanks for this!

Thankyou. That's a good idea, i think i will have to have this conversation with him when i see him. Its not fair on me and i understand that. I understand he needs space during this time as well, i just hope he decides what he wants so i can move forward
