My mom and dad, but mainly mom, gave me their spare bedroom set last year. They got a new one. This year, my mom wants hers back bc it matches a quilt my gram made..and my mom likes the old set better. She even offered for me to take the mattress with the new set since its new and she knows I love that mattress when I stay over.

So we set up a time/day this weekend to move the stuff. Since I live an hr away, we even rent a uhaul so we can do it in one trip. I get a guy from work to come over and help me. So that's scheduled for tomorrow. I wake up this am and my mom says she doesn't want to give me the mattress bc"none of the dogs have slept on it"...meaning she doesn't want to switch it with mine bc my dog (who doesn't shed) has slept on it. What? So we rented a uhaul for nothing, since the rent of the stuff would have fit in my dads truck anyhow! And....they have 3 dogs and their dogs go on everything...this is the one piece of furniture they aren't allowed on....and that's why she's keeping it? Did I mention I dog sat for them last year when they went on vacation (they have 3 dogs) and one of them jumped on that spare bed and peed on it? Yet, she doesn't want my 3 yer old mattress bc my dog slept on it?

I respect that decision, but why wait until the day before we are ready to move it to tell me? I didn't even ask for the mattress....she offered it bc she knows how much I like that one! And now she's taking her offer back? I don't get it. She's so messed up sometimes. Now I'm like, just keep it all. I never even asked for it in the first place! I'm so frustrated!

Don't blame you for being frustrated. I'm sorry your mom is being so inconsiderate and changing her mind at the last minute. Does she do this to you often? You say "she's so messed up sometimes" so it sounds like this isn't the first time she has given you a reason to be upset with her. I'm glad you came to PC. It's the perfect place to vent if you need to or discuss things that concern you.

Thanks so much for your reaponse. Yes- she's got her quirks for sure. She shops and keeps things that she doesn't need. Idk. I sometimes think about moving back to the area where my family is but idk if it would be healthy for me. She drives me insane sometimes!

Sounds like your mom definitely "flaked out" on you with this situation. Frustrating. I don't have a lot to add, but try and keep your boundaries up - you can't control your mom's actions but you can control how much of it "touches" you. Take care.
