I've been going to counselling at my school for almost a year now, and my Councillor has decided I need to have a mental health assessment.
He says he needs my parents to help with this and I don't know what to do! I've already told them I didn't want counseling so they'll be angry for that and I already got enough shouting from them for the self-harm last year, I'm so torn! He says I can have the Head of Pastoral Care talk to them, but I don't know, would it be easier to tell them first? Or should I just leave it to the professionals? Either way, they're going to be told what I've said at counselling as well, and there's some stuff in there that I don't think they'd like to hear. I'm really torn about what to do and I need some advice, help please? Sorry for wasting time, KV |

Have you changed your mind about counseling? Are willing to do counseling now? If so, I think I would let the professionals talk to your family, but you need to be willing to do what is suggested when you are assessed.
Don't worry you are not wasting anyone's time. You are important here.

I don't think counselor is allowed to tell your parents things you don't want them to know. Check this out with him, ask openly whether he is going to tell things you don't want. But I really don't believe he could.
On the other hand, you could tell him exactly the things that you especially want to keep confidential. Be safe and follow experts' advice.
