A friend of ours (more my husband's friend than mine) lost his wife last year. He is here for an extended stay and things are already contentious between him and my husband. This guy likes to turn the conversation to politics, my husband joins in, and inevitably the conversation gets dark because they disagree on many issues.
I realize this is not my stuff and that it is between them but I just need to say I am uncomfortable. It's going to be a long visit. ![]() |

Politics is never a fun subject when people disagree. Hopefully, he won't stay long. You may just have to leave the room and read a book somewhere else.

I say leave politics and religion at the door! I hope this visit goes quickly for you!

how about asking plainly your husband to cut off any politics topic?
he may very well admit that he likes to keep the staying as smooth and happy as it can and allow political discussions only the night before he leaves :-)

Thanks to you who have responded. Seems the consensus is to avoid the touchy topics. Some good ideas here ... I will consider them and come up with a plan before I decide to go get a hotel room until this fellow leaves!
Hugs to all. |
