My therapist has recently started calling me codependent, and I'm baffled. I've been in therapy on and off for many years and have never heard that. At one point I was in a codependent relationship (12 years ago), but nothing like that since. I feel I have appropriate boundaries with my boyfriend, my friend, and my children. Is it because I have low self esteem from a childhood of abuse that my t says this? So confused!

I actually think I tend to be a little selfish. This is my first relationship in over four years (we've been together a year and a half), and it seems fairly balanced. I guess the only time I can be codependent is in my relationships with bosses. But even though I may have codependent tendencies in the workplace, does that mean I need the whole label?

I am very submissive and base my self esteem on how well I perform at work. VERY codependent in work situations! Which is why I had a nervous breakdown in May and haven't been able to work since then.

lol as my T says u shouldnt care about labels but about symptoms. did u start working on it in sessions?? and yeah is really good u don do it in personal relationships. however, a job is also big part of our lives so this prob should be addressed ASAP.

Definitely working on it in sessions, but she wants me to attend CODA meetings. I'm a very strong introvert, and just the thought of sharing myself in a group sounds unpleasant and exhausting.

i didnt know there was CODA meetings. well i think even when we are not introverts is a bit unpleasant, specially in beginning. maybe can be beneficial to u in many levels. try and if u dont think is good for u find other ways with ur T.
