my wife and I have been together for almost 15 years married 9 and have 2 girls.she was diagnosed as bipolar which helps me understand cheating in the past.she had a manic episode recently left the house had many dating profiles I found and secret email and facebook account.i deleted all those things and we are going through counseling new meds and spending more time together.i am hurt from all this especially not really understanding what causes these actions but wondering if our marriage will survive the long term or should I take my girls and run for the hills?

it is common for bipolars to sexually act out so I am not surprised you discovered this about your wife. it does not mean she loves you any less or make her less of a person. mania is very difficult to fight. I drain my bank account and run up all my credit cards despite knowing how damaging this is and not needing anything I buy. nothing we do makes sense when we are manic. we just cant control it. seriously. we can however be medicated successfully, so yes, the marriage can work if you want it to. if she is willing to put in the work to find the right meds and be compliant in treatment. that is really hard for a bipolar to do as well. but it can be done. I haven't had an episode in over a year and the few I have had in the last four years haven't been that serious. it just takes commitment to getting well. take care.
