My own mother just told me that my step mother hates me. Which goes along with my "step cousins" telling me they hated me and didn't want to in the family. Now I feel like a terrible person on top of being a failure at life. Nothing I do is good enough. I've never had anyone uplift me or motivate me. Just people to tell me when I've failed. It hurts. When did I become this terrible person that no one loved or wanted. I always thought I was nice, and people liked me...guess not.

I understand that they are family but it just isn't a good idea to allow others to define you.
Thanks for this!

Your mother tells you that your step-mother hates you? Sounds like there is a lot of awfulness going on that didn't originate with you.

I wouldn't base my opinion of myself on any of these people, if I were you. Sorry you don't have nicer family connections.
Thanks for this!

"I always thought I was nice"

This is important - that you understand yourself in this way - that you think of yourself in a positive way. While considering aspects of your life that might be thought of as successes or failures - identify those successes and strengths.

You know, quite often when one parent says something about their ex or the step-parent... chances are there's some ill intentions behind it.

And goodness... what a mom you have. Even if it was true, why on earth would she tell you that?? Think about it. There was nothing positive about the experience for you, so what did your mom gain from that?
