"You Just Don't Understand"
Women and Men in Conversation by Deborah Tannen, Ph.D. This is an amazing book. It explains the differences, not only in conversational styles, but how information is processed between the two sexes. I found it invaluable - absolutely invaluable in helping me to understand what men are saying, why they say the things they say; what women say and why we say the things we say, and then why we both cannot figure out what each other is saying! It's really incredible how truly different the sexes think, process information and react to what is being said. It is a facinating read - very easy to understand, and I would suggest it to everyone - including men! (Actually, I should reread it myself since I am at a point where I am either going to start pulling my hair out OR HIS!!) This is the stuff that no one ever teaches about the opposite sex.

Sounds like a good book to get for DH to read! He's always telling me "You just don't understand!" GGRRR Yes, I do! Much better than he does, actually!
![]() I've read Venus and Mars. It's a good book! I began to understand DH much better after I read it.

Naaahhhh, we don't need books like these. Men just need to learn to obey and not ask questions.

The difference between Deborah Tannen and John Gray is that Deborah Tannen is a well-known and respected communication researcher whose work is based on a 20-year career of sigificant research. By that time, she'd earned her spurs in the academy and could "afford" to write a popular work, which is looked down on.
John Gray is regarded as a popularizer without substantial research to support what he claims. He is very, very well-read.
