Have a friend from college. Whenever they are coming to our city she says we will be coming down, almost implying they will be staying with us. The last time they stayed she brought her boyfriend, her daughter and her daughters friend. They asked me to put up my cat because the friend was allergic, she won't eat certain foods so we have to go where she choses to eat, she can be rude and abrupt and they are just not pleasant to have around 24/7.
We have been very close since college but over the years I have realized that other than that college bond we have little in common and I really don't enjoy spending time with her.
How do I tell her she can't stay in my home when she is in town?

This is going to sound a bit abrupt, but just flat out tell her she can not stay at your house. No means no.
Thanks for this!

I would just say. It really would be best if you find a hotel to stay in and we can meet for dinner or lunch(whatever) .. If shes rude enough to push the issue then I would say ending the relationship should be an easy decision.

I honestly can't understand how people can be so thoughtless and well ....rude.

I agree with the others. The right thing to do is simply talk to her.

BUT...I think I might take the easy way out and just email a list of hotels in the area and not explain it...
