Hey All

I am trying to help find out ways to help my girlfriend with an issue she has been having for a long time. She has anxiety, schizoaffective and depression. Every morning she wakes up she is very down for the first 2 to 3 hours. Regretting being in a relationship, very down on herself, thinking she should be alone not worthy or anyone, etc, This happens no matter what time of the day she wakes up for the first 2 or 3 hours. Then once she gets through it she is fine. and her spirits pick up. Anyone know why this happens the same way every day and for the same first few hours after being awake? This is really tearing her apart any advice would really help.

Welcome to Psych Central. Sorry your girlfriend is having what sounds like waking up depression. Has she talked to her doctor about this. It could be a medication problem or a lack of medication problem. If she wants to solve this problem it could be easy for you. If she does not want to solve this problem, I feel a lot of empathy for you but know no way to help someone that does not want help.

Some people at PC will find a therapist will help them. Some people find the forums give them the compassion and empathy they seek. http://forums.psychcentral.com

There are articles that go into more detail about coping

I find that sometimes just making a change in the routine can help. Maybe you could go for a walk as soon as you wake up?
