What do you think when someone says that to you?

I normally think: I hope you are being inspired instead of following what I want all the time. Everybody has their rights to what they want too.

I know everybody has their own opinions to this comment and I want to see what your thoughts are.

No one has ever said they to me, and I doubt they ever will but if they did I would find it very, very creepy.
Thanks for this!

If I make someone a better person I am happy and simply glad I could have done this.
Thanks for this!

well, my husband has made me a better person. i was a mess when we first met. murderous and suicidal, choleric and utterly out of control. he believed in me, and with kindness and patience allowed me to find more peace and contentment. so yes, it's possible to honestly say this to someone.

my very best friend is also helping me in this respect. he knows my illness and is supportive and understanding. he leads me out of the darkness when necessary and shows me articles and interesting things pertaining to borderline. he is also making me a better person.
Thanks for this!

The more I think about it though, a healthy relationship would be where each partner are there to support each other to become a better person. The more I reflect upon it the more I can't help but smile. Though depending on the person it can have different meanings.

My boyfriend had said that to me the other day and when we talk again on the phone I will have to say something about that.

I think it depends on the individual and the context. I don't find it creepy in the least, but I do think that no one should be the sole influence over what makes another individual a better person. That said, yeah...it's cool that we have people in our lives who are positive influences and lift us up. I mean, this is probably not exactly what the person who said this was talking about but that's what a role model is, right? Someone who inspires you?
Thanks for this!

Yes, my first thought might be correct. He can help himself, not just me.

I'm with your first thought, the one of inspiration.

That was very sweet of him
