I am 50 years old and dealing with OCD, PSTD, borderline Personality Disorder. I love my mom very much, but her verbal abuse is affecting me to the point that my mental health and self-esteem is so low. My therapist told me to stay away from them for awhile, cause of my mental health is suffering and I do not deserve it,which she is right. My question is how do I start self-care and rasing my self-esteem. I know that sounds like a stupid question to ask, but my mind is racing and having trouble sleeping and eating, cause my systems are so bad right now,yes my therapist know this. I just need some support right now and that someone cares about me. Just having a rough time right now. thanks for reading this. take care.

You don't have to raise your self esteem to start self care. In fact you can feel pretty crappy and still manage the self care. if you have a little extra money but yourself some candles and go take a bath . . . have a good cry and wash away the tears.

I'm glad it helped.
I get the feeling that a lot of people on here don't really want to help a person where they are at . . . the one that have replied to my post don't seem to bother reading or following the comment either, they just post random stuff trying to convince me to do what they would like have in their lives, which for the most part is irrelevant to my life or situation.

If you keep finding little ways to work on the self care, maybe the self-esteem will start to improve too.

I think a lot of time people expect too much and just don't want to meet you where you are. I do what I can and try to be content with that.

Cheers!

I respectfully disagree. People on this site are very willing to help . Sure one doesn't need to listen to every advice or in fact any advice but people are awesome and helpful on this site

Hugs. What I find helpful in self care aspect is eating healthy and exercising and spending time outside. It makes me feel better . Would it help you what do you think?

Exercise helped me a lot. Going for walks, and trying to focus on what you're looking at rather than worrying. I take a camera with me, so I can focus outside of myself.

Do you have hobbies you enjoy? Make time for them. Schedule them.

Also, pay attention to what you're eating. If strawberry shortcake cheers you up, eat it! If, on the other hand, you find sugar makes your thoughts race, try to avoid it and see if it helps you feel better.

Excellent! Hope it gets better as you try all these things. I also find watching something funny on TV helps
