So, me and my fiance have been together for 2.5 years. Since then he has found that he has high anxiety and depression. Especially when he drinks. He went to a psychiatrist who told him quit drinking and it will go away. So he stopped he has been feeling better. I've noticed it, everyone has.
Recently he has been trying to find a job working with his Masters degree. Its so hard. So he got in touch with some recruiting agencies who help you find jobs. Today he took a skills assessment test, he wasnt confident in his skills with excel or typing. He is looking to get into business/ management. He had an interview at a local hardware store today offering a lot more money than he does now. After taking the assessment he stormed out. He went to his parents. He then started texting me saying hes a failure. He is going to stay where he is forever. He is calling the recruiting place Monday and telling them not to help him anymore because he wont get anywhere, he is also cancelling his interview.
He does this very high anxiety behavior a lot, acts irrational, sabotages himself and then doesnt understand why hes not getting anywhere. In turn this boosts my anxiety up, makes me sick, and makes me want to cry. I literally have no idea what to do. He refuses to get the therapy and help he needs all because one doctor told him hes fine, he needs to stop drinking. I'm worried that once we get married he will feel the same way. I don't know how to comfort him without him thinking I feed him ********. I also dont want to see him sabotage himself either.
Hugs from:

Yeah that has to be hard on you... There is an underlying problem that is causing the depression he is having but I couldn't tell you what that is. He needs to figure it out though because it sounds like he is being irrational and causing his demise.

Could the issue be a fear of success? I struggle with that myself it seems…I wish I had some insight in how to deal with it.
Thanks for this!

Well today he is saying that he isnt sure what he wants to do. He thinks that since he has his masters he needs to start right at the top. He also told me he didnt get a perfect score on the assessment and thats why he no longer wishes to go after these jobs. Im so confused. He feels so inadequate. Hes constantly back and forth.

What is his master in? Why does he need to be good at typing and excel unless looking for secretarial job. I type like an old lady with two fingers and never use excel and I have life long career. Hardware store isn't a bad start or additional income part type of thing, but with masters I'd think he can do more?
