today i had to confront someone that uses my physical appearance to mess with me so i wanted to ask: why do people think that is ok to make jokes about it?? how should we take it as a joke and not be hurt by it????

They probably never had it happen to them idk... They don't know how bad it feels and they might not have anything better to do to pass the time.

Are the people in question oblivious to the emotional pain their jokes have caused you?

I think it's totally unacceptable to judge people by their looks let alone make fun of it. Good for you confronting them. If you can, distance yourself from these people completely.

Not acceptable.

I am wondering; is it the workplace that this is happening in? There are several routes you can take to address this. By law, your employer/firm MUST take this seriously. Harrassmen just won't be tolerated.

Are you in a postion of cutting this person out of your life?

This is by no means an excuse for the behaviour but I just want to mention that a bully is often being bullied themselves. So too they likely have a self-image problem themselves.

But, I wish to stress you need to act on this immediately.

Sometimes people think it's funny to say things as cruel as "your head looks like it was run over when you were a child" and these people are SO incredibly daft that if you don't throw a fit right then and there, breaking down into hysterics, they think you must like it!

Tell this person to stop. Don't give him another chance. Report it to your superiors immediately and tell them it's been ongoing for quite awhile now. I think this may get the guy to finally stop. And if it doesn't, you definitely have a workplace harassment case.
