YES especially long term depression. Apathy for me is "I don't care"... about sleeping, eating, going out, etc. I can not feel enthusiam joy or desire because I shut down the overwhelming feelings of hate anger and fear... now it is "a numb nothingness". I just started ssri so I hope that helps improve it.

No question, it was also my most dangerous period of depression.


I seriously doubt I would be alive today had I not agreed to a safety contract, because I couldn't care less about anything or anyone, not even my daughter Dying seemed like the logical thing to do

Yep. It definitely can be a big symptom. That is why you don't care about eating, washing, dressing, going out, etc.
