I would describe it as a kind of healing but it took almost 30 years to get to that point.

I'm exactly the same way!!! Relationships and my professional connections are always fine. I'm assertive with these ones in my life, and healthy, and happy. But I struggle with friendships. I'm so happy to meet someone who feels the same.
I have been working on this in my life, and working on personal boundaries and assertiveness in my friendship. And it has helped me hugely to find healthier connections. What did you find helped you?

I think healthy boundaries are very helpful, and assertiveness too (some people confuse that with aggression but they are very different things).

For me with friends I have had to learn to trust, and that has not always been easy, I still get a little 'freaked out' by ups and downs of friendships sometimes. Knowing which people are the right friends for me has been a learning curve, but as time goes on I get better at seeking kindred spirits and not wasting time on connections which are not suitable. I think this is what I was trying to say about your church women - maybe they just aren't the right connection for you.
Thanks for this!
