I want to start saving money, my friend(she lives in my neighborhood) and said her neighbor is looking for a babysitter(he doesn't care what gender the person is) he just wants someone at his house during the afternoons to watch his 10 year old son. She gave me his number, but how would I go about calling him I am not sure if my friend told him anything about me yet? And if I said $8.00 dollars an hour if he wants me 4 hours in the afternoon 3 days a week would that be too much? I only have a permit right now so like jobs like this in my neighborhood are the best right now.

no offence but if you dont know how to make a phone call watching someone elses child might not be a good idea. sometimes children end up accidentally getting hurt and babysitters need to be able to make all kinds of phone calls. lets say this 10 year old and you were playing around and this child falls and hits their head or other part of the body on a piece of furniture a broken bone happens what are you going to do, you need to know how to make aphone call to the parents to let them know what happened and which doctor you need to take the child to. but if you are afraid of calling the parents or dont know how to call the parents then this childs health and well being may be in danger, not anything you do on purpose but children do get into some pretty hard situations that require the babysitter to make rules, boundaries and make phone calls get the child help when needed..

only you can decide how to make a phone call to this childs parent. you have the number, how and when is up to you. obviously the childs parent wants to hear form people other wise they would not have gven permission to hand out their phone number to people who want to be the babysitter. right so if you want the job then you will need to decide when and how to get in touch with the parents to let them know you want to babysit their child.

I don't know the ins and outs of your country in terms of pay rates etc - but I wanted to say best wishes with all of this.

Maybe ask your friend to put in a good word for you

You need to meet your own needs and responsibilities before you are responsible enough and capable of looking after someone else's.

As for the wage. It should reflect the legal minimum wage of your jurisdiction.

My advice too is to take a babysitting course (the St Johns Ambulance association offers the best) and get yourself certified. It would be the responsible thing to do.
