These past few months I've noticed that I often get a numb feeling when I'm emoting. Like, when something should normally make me feel super angry, or super happy, I just feel this numb feeling inside of me. It's like my meds won't let me feel the emotion totally, or at all.

I've heard other people on here talk of this numb feeling, so I know I'm not alone. It's a bit frustrating, but the alternative is to have super strong emotions. I don't know which is worse, feeling numb, or being out of control.

Artchic,
Not saying this is the answer for everyone but more therapy (self reflection) and less psych drugs might help. Some drugs (gabapentin, xanax, alcohol, pot) can numb or help you avoid emotions. It is only temporary with occassional use but if you use daily the effect lasts. Daily alcohol use can also make you more depressed. Also, we numb ourselves when we do not want to face painful emotions or have not dealt with a trauma....
Thanks for this!

Ask for a reduction in a medication dosage. I think everyone metabolizes drugs differently and needs to be allowed to experiment with how much they are taking. I stopped taking Gabapentin and my concentration is better. I am trying to deal with my anxiety without meds but still have a bit of xanax and gabapentin around just in case.

Sometimes our emotions are a message that we need to be proactive. Ie set a boundary with someone or get out in the world and take a chance in order to improve our lives. Big changes (or procrastination that leads to disaster) can be scary and cause anxiety. Or maybe you need to deal with emotions that are "below the radar" because they started at a very young age.

I agree with hopingtrying although with my meds I'm feeling super strong negative and overwhelming emotions. I'd like very much to feel numb for a few weeks to take a break. A med review and discussion with your pdoc sounds in order. Best wishes....

Was going to say the same thing as everyone else, as we get older we metabolize things at a different speed.
A dosage that suited you at 19 might not suit you at 26.
And these things can change over a matter of months.
I would start with a med review, and go from there.
All the best.
